[Elenaria]

Snow falls in the meadow around you, covering the scene in a beautiful white wonderland. Your breath mists in the air as you approach the cottage, which is gaily decorated and bright with holly and wonderful smelling evergreen. The wreath on the door is laden with tiny iridescent stars, and you notice that the ornaments have been fashioned from the star eggshells of the Elenaria!

Inside you are instantly greeted by a warm and crackling fire. The cabin smells of hickory and spiced apple cider. A large Douglas fir stands in the corner, surrounded by brightly colored boxes and bags with ribbon. "Oh we're so glad you could come!" Saevia exclaims, taking your heavy winter coats and scarves and bringing you closer to the fire. "We were worried the storm would keep everyone away."

"It's barely snowing Sae, you worry too much." Corlanna chimes in as she brings everyone a mug of cider.

The door in back swings open and a gust of cold air and snow follow the man in in a swirl. He shuts the door and shakes out his cloak, causing a little mini snowfall inside the cottage. "Finished place the sunstones in the stalls so the Elenaria should be fine through the weather."

"Good! That means it's PRESENT TIME!" Corlanna laughs.

Raeris gives her a withering look before sighing. "All right. Just don't go overboard with the-"

"GAMES!!!"

"Oye."

A Christmas Carol

As you know the Elenaria are strongly tied to music and song, and this is an incredibly crucial aspect in raising your Elenaria. A silent home is an unhappy home, and you can often tell that an Elenaria is unwell if they are unnaturally quiet.

So for this contest I would like you to post a link to your favorite holiday carol. It can be about any holiday (as I know we do not all celebrate Christmas, though perhaps everyone can enjoy Christmas music) Please also explain why this carol has meaning to you. Is it something in the lyrics? Do you know its winter the first time you hear that first chord of the season? Whichever entry touches us the most (and who knows there could be more than 1) the triplets shall sing into the sky and inspire an Elenaria just perfect for that song!

WHITE ELEPHANT

Who doesn't love surprises? Raeris. But that's beside the point. The real point is we are going to have a white elephant event! Don't know how a white elephant works?

Well first we'll have a sign up! And everyone who signs up will win a prize. Now usually in a white elephant you have to bring a present to trade, so we're going to ask for 30k in order to be involved. (Also since it is Christmas feel free to gift entry to users!)

Sign ups will close December 23 at 11:59PM Secundi time (so right before Christmas Eve). In order to sign up please post an image of a gift (please try and keep the images small)! Then we will randomize the list.

In order you will pick out a gift! You can pick it for any reason, because it's tall or shiny or whatever and inside there will be a prize! Isn't that wonderful? Now the next person in line has a choice- they can either take YOUR gift (and you will get to pick a different one) OR they can take a new gift from the pile. If they take your gift you either return to the tree and pick up a new present OR you can take someone else's gift. You just cannot immediately take back a gift taken from you! This will go on and on until the end. Being last is absolutely the best option because you get to see almost every present before you make the final decision.

Just one more catch. A gift can only move 3 times. So for example:

Let's say YLO goes first and in the gift she picks there is a Full custom Elenaria WOW what a prize. Aralie thinks the same thing and instead of picking up a new present from under the tree she takes YLOs custom!

YLO sighs and returns to the tree to pick up a new gift. It's a lovely premade.

Silvanon is next! And she thinks she may be a little bit sneaky. She wants that full custom, but it still has a couple of moves left, so she takes a gift from under the tree. It's a really gorgeous stallion. Surely someone will want him!

Winged Dreams is next. That full custom is just too tempting to ignore and she snatches it up. Now Aralie is looking at the gifts out there and finds that the stallion Silvanon got last round is just really too gorgeous to pass up. She snatches him up.

Silvanon sees her chance! She takes the Full Custom voucher from Winged Dreams. The voucher has now moved 3 times in the contest and cannot be moved again so Silv has just gotten herself a full custom Elenaria that no one can take away. She's finished with the game.

I sang this every year in choir in high school, and there's just something about it that brings me joy and makes me feel amazing. I've always loved choir, and this is our traditional song at christmas time. I plan to go up with the choir this year to sign it, since my old choir teacher lets the graduates from years past sing. I was a Sporano 1 (Highest part) and it felt so neat and beatuiful to hit those high notes. :3 This isn't my choir singing, its just one I found, but it works all the same!

As a kid, my family had a record of John Denver & the Muppets Christmas Album. It was my favorite Christmas music, because I loved the Muppets, and the songs were great. It came to really represent Christmas for my family. We eventually upgraded to casette tape, and then cd, and I have one of my own now, of course.
This particular song/poem carries a message I've always liked, encouraging people to remember the environment and the wild animals during their holiday celebrations.
When I moved into my own apartment-- the first time I was living alone-- I got a Christmas tree. I couldn't resist; I named it Alfie.

Christmas Carol Favorite

A song that is and has been near and dear to my heart for years is that of the Christmas Shoes.  My mom started listening to the song with I was still a little "punk" teenager that didn't get in the Christmas spirit for anything, choosing to pretend that the holiday season meant nothing to me.  But I have to say, after hearing the words, I was in tears... (and yeah, maybe I tried to play if off like I didn't care....).  This song stuck with me though, to the point I can hear it in my hear at any time of year, and remember what the spirit of Christmas is about.

Well, a few years in, I finally picked the book up from my mom and read it.  It's was sad, and REALLY had me tearing up and balling, but it meant so very, very much to me.  See, my mom had breast cancer when I was a little little girl.  I still remember the doctor offices, but not the struggles that she had.  It helps me remember what a strong woman hides beneath her sweet and giving exterior.

Finally, last year, my husband and I got around to watching the movie based loosely around the song.  My husband isn't a soft man, nor is he a holiday fanatic like I have become.  That isn't what he was raised to be, and in fact, I would have even called him a grinch.  But we sat there, and I swear, the boy cried harder than I did.  He wouldn't let go of me for a long time after the movie was over, and don't you know it, he's become a holiday lover like me.  Not about the gifts, no, but about the spirit of Christmas.  So every time I listen to this song, I'm reminded of all the gifts I have been given in life, and I remember that in the Christmas spirit, I want to give as much to those who don't have the things I do, but not just during Christmas.... all year round.

I love this song.  Its totally how I feel and I love singing it and dancing around the house with the kids.  How could you not want to sing and dance listening to i?

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. My mom loves Christmas, its her favorite time of year and when I was growing up she would play Christmas songs pretty much non-stop from the day after Thanksgiving til well after Christmas day. This song in particular always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I hear it.

It reminds me of a time when my mom and I actually got along and whens he was happy. It makes me think of all the fun we had baking Christmas cookies and other goodies. To this day this song still feels me with those feelings and good cheer even though things between my mom and I are less than perfect. It makes me invision baking cookies with my kids and all the yummy smells that fill our house around this time of year.

Rascal Flatts. I'll Be Home For Christmas.

I love this song. It's such a great song. Two years ago, a few days before Christmas, my mom called me from the hospital she was in. This song was playing in the background. And she knew deep down that she wouldn't be home for Christmas. So we brought it to her. With their two visitors at a time rule waved for the holiday. But she had called me. Though it hurt her to talk with her voice box thing rubbing her neck the wrong way. And something about deflating it so she could speak. I don't know all the details. She told me to be warm. Stay warm. And always smile. Everything would be ok. And she would be home for Christmas.

The more I think of this, I wonder if she meant home or Home. Up there, in the great beyond.  With Mammaw and Pappaw. Three days after Christmas, I got one of the dreaded calls. My mom had passed on. But this song played through my head. The Rascal Flatts version, I love the purity of their voices. So my mom did go home for Christmas. And now she's only in my dreams.

I really love this song, despite not being religious at all. For me, this song is more about the fact that no one really knows what their child will become. The feats mentioned aren't able to be done by anyone, but the idea is still there. Everyone has potential, but it depends on the individual to act upon it. The bridge part especially, about the blind seeing and the deaf hearing, I don't interpret literally. It makes me think of all the people who dedicate their lives helping others who aren't as lucky. That there are such selfless people in this cruel world is just absolutely mind-blowing to me. But it shows that there is hope for us, as a species and as part of Earth's community.

My favorite would have to be "The Holly and the Ivy". My favorite version is actually sung by the Christmas Revlers, but thus version by Loreena McKennitt dose it justice as well. The imagery is simply so haunting and somehow fae, going beyond any religious symbolism the lyrics might have. It puts me in mind of dark, silent snowy nights in the woods, of a male deer and his regal crown of antlers. Simply put it reminds me of all of the old symbolism of the season and of the core meaning of this time of year-the celebration of light over dark, that is bound to no one god or religion, but to all human kind.

When gifting white elephant entries, how does that work?  Do we post the gift images for the recipient as well, or do we just send payment and they post their gift images themselves (thus ensuring they know that they are entered and are willing to actually play) ?

Hmm, that is a good question. I think the best way to ensure that they know to play is to send me the funds and let me know who you are paying for in the payment note. I will shoot them a mail (especially if you want to make it from Santa, but if you want them to know its you that's fine too) and I'll ask them to post the gift image up in the thread. That way they absolutely know they are playing. And I will not accept that 30k from you until they have posted. If they don't then I'll happily return your money!

All I Want For Christmas Is You

My favorite christmas song; All I Want For Christmas Is You, by Mariah Carey.
- This is because this song touches me deeply, the title actually says it all for me. The last time i saw my granddad was on Christmas day, i had had a sleepover at his place from the 23rd and went home to my mom and dad, along with littlebrother and dad's parents to be with on Christmas eve, which is celebrated on the 24th December in Denmark, and that day in 2005 was the last time i saw my granddad alive. He died between christmas and new year.
So every year in December i feel the hole in my heart that appeared when i got told he had passed away, every year in December i miss him like crazy, and every day of December i listen to this song, with my only wish being that he could be in my life again, and be proud of me. He always had a very special place in my heart, more than my other grandparents, because he was always there for me, on another and more special way then the others, he cared about me and had no trouble showing it. Some of the best times in my childhood is with him.

This year, he has been in heaven for 7 years, and i still can't think about him without crying, i have pictures standing in my apartment of him, and not one day goes by without me thinking of him, but in December it's crazy. All i want for Christmas is him, my only Christmas wish. So this song means the world to me, and it always will, like he will. <3

I picked this song because it was one of the first few songs I learned to play on my clarinet years ago and I liked the rhythm ^.^ I didn't find the song in a book during that time but my teacher wrote out a few bars of it and from then on I usually liked to hear it when Christmas comes around. ^.^
