I love autumn and I love pumpkins so I've decided to hold a special little Nom event this October. You can win pumpkins :D

They aren't any old pumpkins, though. On Halloween they will turn into Garden Noms with a special new lineart. (don't worry, it's not scary). The new lineart will have a 50% chance of being passed on in breeding.
These four pumpkin Noms will be the only first gen Noms with this lineart, you can only get more through breeding.

There are two events and you may enter both. They both finish on Friday at 6:00 secundi time.

______________________________________________________________________

Event #1: Post a pumpkin variety

To enter this event post the name of a pumpkin variety along with a picture of it. I will use random.org to draw two winners out of all the entrants. Good luck!

Event #2: Find a recipe
This is more of a competition, as I will pick my favourite two recipes. To enter, post a pumpkin recipe or find one on the internet and link to it. I do much prefer recipes where measurements are given in grams and millilitres, as opposed to cups or ounces or anything like that. Just thought I'd let you know that "metric" recipes have a better chance of winning. :D
Butternut squash recipes are fine, too. It tastes pretty much like pumpkin, anyway ;)

Rosedawn - pumpkin ravioli
hiyoko - pumpkin roll
CutieePiee - pumpkin ginger cupcakes
Scullisto  - pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting
toffeeca - paradise pumpkin pie
Pinkshadow - pumpkin fudge

I love pumpkins too! One of my all time favorites (though I never get to make it because my husband is picky as sin) is pumpkin ravioli. It's one of the most delicious foods in the world.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pumpkin-ravioli-with-hazelnut-cream-sauce/detail.aspx

The hazelnut cream sauce on top really accents the whole dish well and what I like about this site is that with the click of a button you can see the recipe in metric.

This is a Baby Bear pumpkin.

YourLoveOnly

Fun! :D will enter the second one later.

First one, Aladdin pumpkin:

Ryuukokoro

Ee what a cool idea for an event!! I love pumpkins too, and I love things that pass with breeding! ^.^

Long Island Cheese pumpkin (*giggles at name*):

I love to buy pumpkins to leave around the front yard as decoration this time of year, because I can break them open and leave them in the woods next month when the season is done for wild critters to eat. (My parents frown on Halloween decorations since they don't like buying stuff you only use once a year and the rest of the time it's in storage, so the pumpkins are nice compromise. ^_^ )

Aralie

Yay for pumpkins!

Rouge Vif d'Etampes Pumpkins (Also known as Cinderella Pumpkins)

Will have to look for a recipe once I get home from class

That does sound like a good compromise. I generally like simple and natural decorations the best anyway and I'm sure the animals appreciate it. :)

CutieePiee

I did not realize there are so many varieties of pumpkin! They're all so different and pretty. ^^

Full Moon Pumpkin

hiyoko

CutieePiee

Blue Hokkaido Pumpkin or Australian Blue Pumpkin
[

Ill post my recipe later after I convert it to metric.

Edited to change image size.

Goddesss

You can change this recipe to metric.  Close to the top it says "Original recipe makes 2 - 9x5 inch loaves Change Servings "  Click change servings and you can choose metric.

I make a ton of this every year for parties in October and November.  My kids love it also.  I end up making it for Christmas parties too because people end up requesting me to bring it.  One time I added raisins and that was good also.

Pumpkin Mousse
Serves: 16

Ingredients
5 large egg yolks
1 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups heavy cream
450 ml canned pumpkin
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2teaspoon ground ginger
1/4teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons dark rum
1 teaspoon powdered gelatin
85 grams shaved dark chocolate

Directions
1.Fill a large bowl halfway with ice water and set aside.

2.Whisk the yolks, 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar, and 3/4 cup cream together in a medium saucepan. Heat while stirring continuously with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon over medium-low heat, until thickened and the mixture coats the spatula -- about 10 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl and set over the ice bath. Stir to cool.

3.Add pumpkin, vanilla, spices, and salt to the egg mixture. Stir 1 tablespoon rum and 1 teaspoon gelatin together in a small bowl. Heat the remaining tablespoon rum, and stir in to the gelatin mixture until dissolved. Gently whisk into the pumpkin mixture. Beat 1/2 cup cream to stiff peaks, and fold into pumpkin mixture. Pour into a shallow dish, cover and chill until cold and thick enough to fall from a spoon in heavy dollops -- about 8 hours or up to overnight.

4.Beat the remaining cream and sugar to stiff peaks. Alternately layer the pumpkin mousse and whipped cream in a glass serving dish. Sprinkle the chocolate shavings between top two layers. Serve chilled.

I gave this recipe a test drive last Thanksgiving for a party, and it was a huge hit. For anyone interested, cheesecake's actually pretty simple to make if you're familiar with baking, just make sure to not over-beat the cream cheese mixture, since the cheesecake risks cracking in the oven.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/libbys-pumpkin-cheesecake/detail.aspx
(and yup, Allrecipes has a convienient standard to metric option right on the servings section... although I might tweak the recipe a little since some of the measurements do seem... off)

And since this recipe doesn't give the water bath tip, I'll just link it here for your convenience. I prefer to fill a roasting pan full of water on the bottom oven rack and bake on the top rack, while some people wrap their springform pan in foil and set it in the water directly. I just don't like risking soggy crusts. XD

Turkey Pumpkin chili. Yeah, there's a normal chili, and I am cold, and this sounds good. And cheese and sour cream are involved. So it sounds extra nom!

It'll take me a little longer to choose winners for the recipe competition <3

TheLeet

This was a difficult one but I've picked winners for the 2nd event. You know, canned pumpkin and/or pumpkin puree are actually a pretty obscure and hard-to-find ingredient over here, so I'll have to make my own. XD
I've decided to pick one recipe I'd like to eat and one recipe I'd like to cook/bake because I like my recipes nice and simple but some of the more complex ones are also very tempting. :)

1st place (would like to bake):
sera http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pumpkin-Chocolate-Chip-Muffins/Detail.aspx?scale=12&ismetric=1

2nd place (would like to eat):
Rosedawn http://allrecipes.com/recipe/pumpkin-ravioli-with-hazelnut-cream-sauce/detail.aspx?scale=6&ismetric=1

I'll send the little pumpkins to their new homes now ^_^
