This is a thread of the various Quin markings/genes and which breeds they exist for, and which ones they don't. That way we can tell what breeding projects we might want to tackle. ^_^

Anyone is welcome to post in this thread with more information, especially those who understand the genes more than me (which is just about everyone XD ). I'm making this as more of a public thread than a thread for my own info.

This boy threw 3/3 grades this season, but I'm hoping for dun Andalusians in July! 

I'm convinced this season's slight failure was because I haven't named him yet XD;;  Working on that now.....  >.>

After that, I'll keep working with Adam to get brown into Andalusians!  I've got my hands full, especially since I still want to work on blanket or snowflake Appaloosa too.  I'm so glad you took the Tobiano project off my hands    Life seems so much easier now!  Haha.

1.) I can't believe roan still doesn't exist in Arabians yet, they were one of the first breeds!

2.) The A-T's definitely need some pretty marking genes, though they have plenty of cream at least lol.

3.) Congrats to Leet for finally getting spotty butts in Clyds!

4.) And I got tobiano and roan into Fjords in one shot, whoo!!


@toff - Sky generously gave me her 2nd gen Grade stud so we're halfway to our goal of tobiano in Andys. I'm glad you have a tobiano into morgan project! Both my grade breedings for morgans failed this season, so I'll leave it to you lol. I did successfully start a tobiano/appy into A-T's this season! Whoot!

I'd love it if there could be a list of current projects as well. So maybe organize it in 3 parts? Exists, working on adding and not currently in process or something. Or at least a list of who is working on what projects. It's never a bad thing to have multiple people working on the same thing of course, but I also know some people prefer to start a project that is completely new and that it can be upsetting to start something only to find out someone else has almost completed it already.

On a project related note, does anyone know wether it's been confirmed if there are Ee Friesians and Dd Fjords in existence? It's still possible to breed chestnut Friesians and non dun Fjords without, but it'd be harder, and if there are a rare few already in existence it wouldn't be absolutely neccessary to use Grades, we should be able to breed non-dun Fjords by testing which ones are Dd by breeding the Fjords to non-dun horses of other breeds and labeling which Fjords threw non-dun foals. I think it'd be awesome to accomplish that without crossbreeding! Not that I think there's anything wrong with crossbreeding, I just like the idea of revealing a new gene by using only the horses of that breed XD

I think testing them for Ee or Dd would be fun :p

Yeah I recall her saying something about possibly adding an option to let us buy info about the genetic codes and mentioning that would be useful for Ee Friesians for example, so I figured if some exist we could just try and find them ourselves. I would really like to work on that, with the community's help.

I am 99% sure that when Fjords were released, Silv mentioned them all being DD, at least at that time.  Obviously Ryuu's successful project could be Dd, but we won't know for sure without several crosses to a non-dun.

I do like the idea of being able to test for red in Friesians/Andys and non-dun in Fjords though :3

If my breeding project goes well next season we should be having white Frisians. I have a white boy that's 87.5 coming, and a silver dapple brown girl of the same percent. So if those work out we shall have three new genes in Frisian. (I didn't try for the silver dapple brown, but she and another kept popping up so I thought why not?)

SPO that's because that is a combination of the dominant E gene, without brown or bay, and the dominant dun gene. Blue dun isn't a different gene, it's considered the same as any other dun with Quin.

What should we update here?    I've only been keeping track of Andalusians, but I've seen such beautiful coats showing up in all the other breeds--I would love to know what's new!

Toffeeca just introduced a Palomino Andalusian, and also has brought in a Tobiano Andalusian--last season ^_^

I'm claiming a Buckskin Andalusian this season (and if anybody wants to claim the Smokey Black Andalusian among my foals up for grabs, please do ~.^ ~.^).

And this season marks the first Silver Dapple Andalusians, too!  I've just claimed one of them, waiting to be colored :-)

What excites me the most is that Toffee's palomino and my buckskin will be carrying unrelated cream alleles.  Hopefully, double cream is on the way!
