If it is chestnut, its "base" is ee.
A horse with a black base has either EE or Ee. Both of your blacks are Ee, which is how they gave you a foal with ee.

So ee x EE = Ee (black), always.
But ee x Ee = Ee (black) 50%, or ee (red) 50%.

A chestnut bred with another chestnut will always give you a chestnut foal, since there would be no capital E anywhere in either of the parents' codes.

Ok so breeding one of my females, she is a black tobiano, what are the chances of that passing down if she is the only one?  and woudl they be increased with another tobiano?

Tobiano is dominant, so a tobiano horse could be either TT or Tt.

If your stallion is TT, whether you breed him with a solid horse or another tobiano, the foal will always be tobiano.

If your stallion is Tt, breeding him with a solid horse will give you a 50% chance of a tobiano foal, and breeding him with another Tt tobiano will give you a 75% chance of a tobiano foal.

Bay is AA or Aa.  You have a very good chance at bay - between bay and black, you have at least a 75% chance at bay, and possibly a 100% chance.  There's always the chance that they both carry chestnut, in which case you'd have a small chance at chesnut, and an even smaller chance at black.

The tobiano has either a 50% chance or at 100% chance of passing - if your Coke has ever produced a solid foal you know it's 50% chance of passing.  Otherwise it's an unknown, and this breeding might tell you which it is.

what's the chance of tobiano passing if sabino is thrown into the breeding? XD Chessy's a sabino too, rechecked my horse coats thread

Sabino is a form of overo, so doesn't influence the chances of passing tobiano along, they are seperate types of paint.

since Chessy is a bay sabino, she has tt for tobiano
and Coke is a bay tabiano so he has oo for overo
so Oo x oo = mostly chance for no overo
and TT x tt = tobiano, but Tt x tt = mostly no tobiano
and that's where I'm stuck XD
