~*~The Kennel: Information on the New Breeding System~*~

Hi all!  Silvanon here.  As you know I'm retired as Kennel colorist due to a Quin-and-Secundi-related severe lack of time.  However, I have sufficient time for, and have agreed to take on the role of Communications Officer, to help facilitate good information flow and good feelings generation.  So everyone, let's communicate so we all feel better!  

First off, an apology on Garney's behalf for this information not having been published sooner.  Sometimes it's hard to "get down on paper" the ideas in your head, especially when you're short on helpers to work you through it.  Ok, now on to the information you've all been waiting for....

How Breeding Will Work from Here On Out

From now on the Kennel will run on a breeding season system.  When a breeding season happens, no items will be needed in order to breed.  Instead, each person is given a breeding slot.  If a person has multiple registered Kennels, they will be given one breeding slot per Kennel, up to a max of 3 slots.  In other words:

No Kennels = 1 slot
1 Kennel = 1 slot
2 Kennels = 2 slots
3 or more Kennels = 3 slots

There will be a time period for people to turn in their breeding requests, and then puppies will begin to arrive as the Kennel Colorists get litters done.  Litters will still be entered into the Secundi automated system and grow after 1 month's time.  The rules regarding how many puppies Kennels and non-Kennel owners can keep will still be the same - 1 puppy for non-Kennels, 3 puppies for Kennels.  Random dice roll will decide how many puppies are in each litter, with a possible min of 1 pup and a possible max of 5 pups.  Comp bonuses will still apply and may raise the max number of possible pups.    When all due litters are delivered, the breeding season is considered done.

There will be an announcement when the first new breeding season happens.  The first breeding season will be a test run to see how long everything takes and how well it runs.  Afterwards any necessary changes will be announced, as well as a schedule for future breeding seasons.

So what's going to happen with all the beds everyone had?  Please read below (info coming shortly) to discover the options we have available for you.

~*~Bed Owners List~*~

Alright, so, I'm afraid I have some very bad news.  It's a sad tale of bad decisions and computer woes.  It wasn't the best decision to delete all the beds before they'd been used.  A simple text list is "neater" and that's what Garney wanted to do.  She was indeed making that list as she removed beds from inventories, but then her computer froze up and the file couldn't be saved, and poof went the list.  So, bad decision followed by computer woes, ends with no list.

Now's my part.  It wasn't the best decision to simply trust that when the website told me that it had successfully created a backup file, which was now saved on my computer, that the backup file was indeed a successful backup file.  I should have checked, but I didn't.  It turns out that for... pretty much forever, I've been merrily downloading "successful backup files" that simply contained error messages about how the backup was not successful.  So, again, bad decision plus computer woes ends with no list of beds.

I've been busy the past several hours trying to see if I had any viable way of getting any bed info back.  I have some info on how many beds total there were in the system ever, but that doesn't tell us who had what.  I checked with the hosting company to see if they had a backup, and they do have one, but it's from after the bed deletions.

In short, all of the many avenues have been exhausted, and there is still no list.

Here's what we're going to do about it.


As a baseline, we are going to count everyone has having 5 large beds.  You may use either of the options below with those 5 large beds, either turning them into Shiny points or coloring your own litters with them.

Now, some of you (not a ton, but some) had way more beds than 5.  If you are one of these people, please post how many beds you think you had, rounded up to the nearest 5.  So, if you think you had more than 20 but less than 25 beds, report 25.  If you know for certain you had 13 beds, report 15.  All beds will be considered large, whether they really were or not.  If you would please, put your post in red.  

I'll make a list here of people with more than 5 beds.  For bed ID's, please use "Bed 1" "Bed 2" and so forth.

~*~Shiny Points For Beds Trade-ins~*~

What's this?  The first option for what you can do with your old beds?  Why yes, yes it is!

If you so desire, you may trade in your old beds in return for Shiny Points, which you can use in the Shiny Store to purchase things such as Tag-its, Lineart Edit Vouchers, and Champ Packs.   Here's the chart of what you can get for each type of bed.  To see the Shiny Points Store, go to http://www.lemontoss.com/kennel/competitions/ and log into your account, then click on the link titled "Kennel Store"

~*~Color Your Own Litter~*~

Welcome to the second option of what to do with your old beds!  Still want to see a litter come out of your bed?  Are you able to color, or know a friend who can color, or are willing to ask someone to color for you?  Then this is the option for you!

So, yes, if you own a bed and would like to do so, you may color your own litter (or if someone else is willing to color it for you, that's fine too).  You must use real Kennel dogs as the parents (no imaginary made up ones) and if you do not own the dogs, you must have the owners post the Permission Form found below.  Since this is an unusual circumstance, we aren't going to worry about "overbreeding" -  the same parents may be used in multiple breedings.  As for how many pups per bed, we're going to go strictly with the numbers listed on the official chart, no variation:

So, for example if you are using a small bed for a litter of medium-sized dogs, your litter would consist of 2 pups, no more and no less. (Well, ok, you can color less if you really want to.  But not more.)  The one exception is for Championship Points.  If the dogs you're using have enough points for added on puppies, you may add those on.  If you aren't sure what size dog the breed you're doing is, you can check the list here: http://www.silvanon.com/TheKennel/breeds.html

If by chance you do not find the file there that you need, let us know.  But we're fairly sure they're all there.  Try the zip file if you need to, it's supposed to have everything.  If you really truly need a different file format, let me know what files and I'll try to get them converted for you.

Puppies or Adults or Both?  Your choice!  If you do both puppy and adult stages, we'll add them into the automated system so they auto-grow for you.  If you'd prefer to skip right on ahead to adult without coloring a puppy stage, be our guest!  If you'd like to take this opportunity to color some forever puppies, ok!  (Disclaimer:  Forever puppies are not breedable or able to compete.  They're puppies.)  If you have decided not to do a stage, just put n/a in that spot on the form.  Pups will all be given to the person who owns the bed, who should also be the person to post the breeding form.  Pups going to others can be redistributed by the bed owner from there.

ETA: I'm also looking for someone to colour a few litters for me, since my dog colouring skills aren't great. Or my breeding skills. So i think it would be best if i could bribe someone else to do them

Now I must figure out this breeding thing.. I'd love a few CYO litters, but I am not skilled enough and after asking around a bit it seems like everyone wants a bribe before they'll color. I understand that, but I already paid for these beds, often in USD so I am not really willing to pay twice. Is the previously mentioned option of submitting a regular breeding with honoured bed effects not possible anymore? =( So I would use a bed with my slot and I would just get a set amount of puppies instead of a 1-6 diceroll? I stocked up on large beds on purpose to get plenty of puppies with my small-dog breedings.

Edit: I mean my secundi inventory by the way, I don't think I had any left in the gallery.

YLO - I think you're a bit confused on the new system.  The new system is bed-less.  You get your slot whether you have a bed or not, and using your slot does not use up a bed.  The beds you have right now as listed at the top of the thread will remain until you use them up via the two options we've provided. 

There's no time limit set on the options, you can keep working through your beds at your own pace until they're used up.  People may not be willing to color for you for free right now, but that won't necessarily be the case down the road when most people don't have any beds left to use themselves.  CYO's don't happen every day with The Kennel.

I know I don't need a bed, but before this thread was posted I was under the impression we had the option to use one anyway to guarantee a certain amount of puppies. I stocked up on large beds to get a large amount of puppies from tiny/small breeds of dogs, now when breeding my chihuahuas I could get just a single puppy with an unlucky diceroll, so I had hoped we had the option to use up a bed on a slot anyway to be guaranteed a certain amount of pups

Im going to be working on some litters once im done but i have some what i hope simple questions.

When breeding i know you have the option of getting the total number of puppies thats on that 3x3 thing. Do we go with a roll thats say for small female with a Large bed 1-5? With a chance of getting less or do you not care?

And for Champion breedings, how many extra pups would their be? Cause id like to do at least one breeding with T'kaya who is a champion.

but what's she's saying is the beds you stocked up on can be used now in the CYO way or you can get 6 shiny points for them (if they were large)

So the CYO way a large bed with small breed would give you 5 puppies, cause once they start breeding seasons, the amount of beds you have, stocked up on haven't used yet, doesn't matter they will not be used in the seasons at all.

YLO - your beds will still all be able to produce litters of 5 pups each if used with small breeds.  It's just going to be done via CYO litters.  In addition to the many pups you will get via your beds used in CYO litters, you will receive free bed-less breedings each breeding season which will give you 1-5 pups each round.  You'll end up with more pups this way than you would if TheKennel were allowing use of beds during the new breeding seasons.  

Sunchaser109 - according to the chart, a small dog in a large bed should produce 5 pups.  If for some bizzare reason you really want to roll dice to choose a smaller number of pups to do for your breeding, ok, you can do that, but we don't really know why you would.  The list of champion point reward pup numbers can be found here: http://www.lemontoss.com/kennel/points.html  I've added that info to the post up top as well.

Willow - Yes you can start coloring now.  Try to be reasonable about what coat colors a pairing is likely to give, but no you don't need to run the pair by staff first.  Ryuu is right that headshots are 75 x 75 pixesl big.

Sunchaser109 again - if the breed doesn't have puppy lines, either color the litter as adults only, skipping the puppy stage, or pick whatever puppy lines you think work best.  This is a CYO exclusive chance to breed dogs who don't have puppy lines yet.   Also, you're totally right that the page I'd linked didn't have breed sizes.  It used to, and I've uploaded an old copy that does have breed sizes to my site.  I've fixed the link in the top post, and here it is again: http://www.silvanon.com/TheKennel/breeds.html

PonyMama - you've got it exactly right.  If the parents combined have at least 10 points, then you can add 1 extra pup to the litter.  If the parents combined have at least 20 points, you can add 2 extra pups.  If the parents combined havve at least 30 points, you can add 3 extra pups to the litter.

How will pup trading work with CYO litters? Like if I have a breeding that results in 5 dogs, and only have the adult images, will all 5 adult dogs be put in my account and I have the standard 1 month to find homes for 2 of them? Or are we forgoing the 'only keep 3 offspring' rule and I'm allowed to keep all 5 if I choose? Or should we include owner for each pup on the Breeding Form?

Ryu - you'll have the standard month to trade in.  I'll be instructing the Kennel workers on how to use the auto-grow system when there's just adult (or just pup) images so that the trading time period and catch are all automated per usual.
