Okay so since im grounded to my couch (got sick and now i have no tonsils, nice right?). Ive been doing some research on boarding near me. Most actual companies want like $300 at least for boarding, theres a couple personal stables that want $275 and then one batty lady that wants $500 for boarding.

On top of boarding I'm looking for a younger horse to start fresh with (my old boy of 18 years was giving as a gift to a friends mother after she lost her horse). Most horses around her are either really pricey or really cheap and err broken? Needless I had pretty much hit a brick wall with both things and I was getting really disappointed.

Then I tried out Dreamhorse.com, I found an add from a woman with off the track TH horses. Her site had a few up that were between $250-$2500. I called her and O.o she was probably one of the most pleasent people ever!

I asked about horses not listed and she told me of a decent little 4 year old mare that was an off track sprinter. Then we got to talking about crazy boarding prices near me and she told me that she full care boards for $200 feeds an awesome food and has TONS of land to ride one. I was instantly intruiged but to my knowledge where she lived was a tid bit far. However after she told me her address I found that she was a measly 12 miles away and thats really nothing. Then we talked about how she needed help and I asked if I came out like 3 times a week if she could discount..one thing lead to another and she told me that if I came out and hellped and paid the first couple months in boarding that I COULD HAVE a horse of my choice!

:D :D :D

I cannot tell you how awesomely thrilled I am! Friday I'm going to check things out..god I'm just so happy!

EDIT:Todays visit did not go well, I started to notice none of the horses had manners, many of them had strangles, many of them were cribbers and all of them were fearful. And I figured out why today, on this womans site she acts as if she loves her horses, that shes rescuing them. Today in just the little time i was there she kicked a horse in the stomach three times because he wouldnt sit still. She turned out a gelding with mares and after the mares kicked the crap outta of him for quite awhile. Shes incredibly mean to these horses, one of the mares she brought back last night is seriously 2 days off track and instead of waiting for her to calm down and retrain her shes just going to breed her then sell her off..are you kidding?

Winged

Wow, that is amazing! I'm so glad that things worked out well for you :)

^^ So long as our school pay comes in the hubs says I can go ahead and get my horse!

Im going to look at her horses and area on friday to make sure its my time and investmsent :D Lets hope everything goes okay!

hiyoko

I would seriously report her, that's terrible what she's doing. >:(

Ryuukokoro

Sigh I figured this would happen. "If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is." But I didn't want to spoil your hopes so I didn't say anything. Remember this for the future, dear. It's a good life lesson if nothing else.

But yeah, I agree with hiyoko, report her. The horses deserve a better life than that.

Whimsy

Ive found a new place to board, partial care all you do is supply grain. Its 175 a month with the grain ill buy it'll be like 200 a month, theres a couple horses im looking at so we'll have to see whats going on with them :D hopefully i can undo the mess and still get my horse!

YourLoveOnly

Are you going to report that woman? I agree with the others, those horses deserve to be rescued for real.

springacres

Report that *insert creative word here* ASAP.  And talk to the cops AND the humane society (humane organizations can usually just inspect properties and animals, cops can seize them outright from what I understand, but best to cover all your bases)

Whimsy

I called to check to see if anything had been reported before shes got a charge for FRAUD! Basically shes a -non- profit organization..who is making alot of profit. Shes been reported for neglect and abuse both a few times though theyve never been able to prove it.

Ryuukokoro

But you saw her kicking a horse in the stomach yourself so you can be a witness? Isn't that proof?

YourLoveOnly

Also if a horse gets kicked in the stomach multiple times they should be able to find something when examining that horse, so you can get that looked into as well.

Whimsy

In out state or area at least the last thing more law enforcement worry about is any sort of animal based laws. They dont even really get to huffy about hunting out of season. So really sadly even though I say I seen it, they wont investigate the area till long after the horse has healed unless real true damage was done.

PonyMama

I am sure you could find an animal group online who woudl make a big huff and go see for themselves, you just have to search.  No animal shoudl be treated that way

BabyKittenCandy

Or even, if they have had other complaints before, maybe if they get enough it could be dealt with?
Or get an online group involved like PM said ^^

Whimsy

Like I said, this stuff lands to the local law enforcement and then it just gets lost in other "more important" things.

YourLoveOnly

Every place has a humane society or other organisation that tries to protect animals. Even if law enforcement doesn't do anything they can and will check out your complaint and if they see something that worries them they could try bringing law enforcement in themselves. Usually it helps to have an animal rights organisation handle it, even if it slows down the process a little.

Silvanon

It doesn't take much to turn in a report.  Even if they don't do anything with your particular report, at least it'd be there on record adding evidence for when someone can prove something.

PonyMama

but to not report it even though you know it is wrong, even if you feel they won't take it seriously is not good.  You as a human and someone who can speak needs to speak for those who can't

think of it this way, how would you feel if one of those horses was found dead a month from now due to neglect and abuse?  How would you feel knowing you could have said something, or contacted the A.S.P.C.A or similar and complained.

How woulg you feel to sit on vital info and do nothing with it?  Sometimes it is best to leave that in someone elses hands.

I have had to report people for child and animal abuse, and even if I don't see the workings on I know I did what I could

Kahlira

I've been reading this for a while now, and finally decide to add my say. Send an annonymous note say, the local new media. They love undercover operations, and that's a surefire way to get people to get involved. The news plays it on air or whatever, you'll have everyone in your town up in arms against horse lady.

We've had this happen around here with dogs. There's two things John Q Public can't abide, it's abuse of animals, and abuse to children.

Neocridders

I understand what you mean about the law enforcement not really needing to worry about it.

But, as everyone else here has said, you need to do something. It doesn't have to be something big. It could be as easy as a phone call or finding something on the internet.

You know, if she's done one bad thing, she's probably doing more. She's probably continuing to do other bad things, and honestly, I bet if you can't catch her with animal mistreatment/abuse, you could get her for something else. As I think you said earlier, she was running a non-profit organization and getting profit for it? I'm sure that's not the only thing she's doing! One way or another, this lady is doing bad things. And needs to be stopped.

If that means making a phone call, then do it.
If that means calling the news, like Kahlira said, do that.
If that means doing a bit of snooping and finding more evidence, do that.
If that means going online and finding out who you can contact to report this, you need to do it.

Horses don't deserve that. :(

Whimsy

Oh no, I have reported her to both the local aspca and the local law. Ive contacted the jockey club to see if they have any other resources as far as other true retired rescues. They have yet to contact me back :/
