Espie frowned as she walked home from the pond in the dewy moonlight. The perpetual moonlight. The boring moonlight. This was why she hated the night; it was so predictable. She much preferred the day, although she would admit it to no one; they would tell her she was crazy. Moonlight gave her life, not the sun, and she should appreciate the moon like a goddess.

Espie snorted. Hurrying through the field now, she tripped over a soft bundle hidden beneath the plants.

"What the-" she exclaimed.

"Ma-ma!" said a little voice. It was definitely male.

Looking down, Espie gasped. It was a small Furimi boy, smooth, chocolaty brown with a golden, maple-syrupy mane. He was adorable.

"Hello, little one. I'm not your mama. Where is she?"

"Mama!" And the little thing reached up towards her, tears pooling in his caramel-colored eyes. "Mama!"

"Oh...poor thing. You must be lost. I'll take you home and see if you've been lost." And saying so, Espie took up the little boy and took him home.

She asked around, and found his mother had been nearby, but had been distracted and the boy had crawled away. Espie and the boy, named Jack, became good friends as Jack grew up, and Espie always enjoyed the night after that, and told the story often.
