There are normally only 20 items.  Every once in a while, we may do more - Garney did a full 40 for a couple comps around Christmas the first year.  But I will usually specify if there will be more.

In fact, I had an idea for next week's grab that would allow extras to be given out, but I will talk about that more, after I run this week's comp!

Okay, now my idea for next week's grab >.>

Some of you may remember the limit for grabbed items per dog was higher on PI (I believe it was 5?).  I have been trying to think of ways for people to get those higher bonuses for some of their dog, but still give people a fair chance at the bonuses.  Since we are a smaller population here, and live in so many different time zones, it makes things harder, than on PI where, yes there were many time zones, but there were far more people, and the ratio of how many who could make the event versus how many missed due to time differences was very different.

So, I was think of making things a teensy bit more random >.>

Next week (and this will be a trial run - if people do not like it, we can go back to the normal ways), I will be limiting the grab to 1 grab post per person, 20 grabbers total.  BUT.  When you post the grab, I would also like you to post a number between 1 and 4.  When I collect the list of grabbers (I will post the rules in the morning, and collect the list in the evening), I will roll a D4 for each one, and compare it to the number chosen. 

If it matches, you will get that many points (ie - you post 3.  I roll the d4 and get 3 - you get 3 points). 

If it does not match, you will get the difference (ie - you pick 3.  I roll and get 2 - you get 1 point), it doesn't matter if you are higher or lower than the number I roll.

This will mean you will get anywhere from 1 to 4 points, depending on the number you choose, versus the number I roll - I do expect 4 to be fairly rare.  But, everyone who plays will be guaranteed at least 1 point.

I am also considering asking you to post a color, which will determine which d4 I use (I have a lot of dice, and my d4s don't get a lot of use >.>), but I haven't decided about that yet.  I would need to check and see exactly what colors I do have XD

By all means, feel free to post what you think of this idea.  If enough people don't like it before hand, I will stick with the normal grabs.

That sounds good to me.  My only question is, how many packs would we be able to claim per post?  (I would assume one per, but just thought I would ask and clarify)

but if I guess 1 and the die rolls 4 I get 3 points for the huge miss?

ETA: I think this is a great way to get more points added to dogs at times.  Everytiem I get a pack for a dog, that dog does horribly so maybe this will help

I like that. It makes people get more points for their dogs sometimes, plus it's letting more people join in, plus it's not so many champ packs per person. I feel like this is a really fair way to do it. It's completely random how many points someone gets. I love it.

I hadn't decided the pack part yet...  I was debating between just one per person, like the posts, or giving them the same as what they end up with as points - if people have a preference, please do say so!

As I have it thought out so far, yes, that is correct PM - a little goofy yes >.>

Another thought was to have a matching set of 1 to equal 4 pts as well, as there would be only very very small chances of people getting 4 pts, if I stick with the current write up.  lots of chances for 2s and 3s, and especially 1s, but only 1 combo that would result in 4 pts.

This is why I asked for y'all's opinions - give me ideas, in case I didn't think of something important XD  The final rules will probablt be a bit different than the initial write up, to reflect the input I receive byu the end of the week

Hmm. I think that one pack per person would be good, since it seems to me to be so easy to get champ packs now, and people just get more and more. It may raise the value of them, because people will start to want to buy them from others. That's just my opinion, though.

I would say stick with the one pack per post.  I agree with Neo that it has become fairly easy to get champ packs, between the item grabs and the fact that they are relatively inexpensive from the point store.  (Now if only my dogs would decide to earn points more often...)

As some are pointing out, picking 1 and rolling 1, gets you 1. Wont everyone pick 4 on the chance of getting a 4? I have a suggestion. Make it where if you pick the exact number, you get 4 points. Then go UP as the direction for determining how "close" you are. Make it wrap around back to 1 so there's still a chance of 1-4 points no matter what number you pick.

Here's an example, with 3 as the picked number.
Roll=3, 4 points for exact.
Roll=4, 1 step away (going UP) 4-1=3 points given
Roll=1, 2 steps away (going UP and wrapping) 4-2=2 points given
Roll=2, 3 steps away (going UP and wrapping) 4-3=1 point given

so basically, just write 1-2-3-4-1-2-3. Select the *first* occurance in the sequence of the number the person chose. now go left to right until you get the actual rolled number. That is how many steps away the person was. So selecting a 3 and rolling a 2 does NOT mean they were 1 step away, but rather 3 steps, as it is read left to right only.

it sounds like an interesting experiment, and I would love to test run it.  but even if it is a success, I wouldn't want it done this way every time, for good.  Simply because sometimes I do want to get points for more then one of my dogs.  I know I "usually" use the same dog for both my grab slots, but now and then I want to use two different dogs.  And I used to see people all the time using multiple different dogs for the grabs.

I just.. sometimes I wouldn't want all my points going to just one dog. 

As an alternative, I guess you can ask people to specify when they post their number, if they want all points to one dog if they get more then one point, or if they rather have them split between two dogs?  And they can post which two dogs at the time of posting.. also specifying which dog gets the point if there is only one..

Lectral..  When entering dogs into the shiney, do I use the Agency ID or Secundi ID?  (I know this was answered somewhere a while ago, but I can't find it back now, is it on the site and I am overlooking it, or was it in a thread somewhere do you know?)

Also.. For dogs I got form other users.  If I try to enter them with Secundi ID, and they are already entered but the previous owner has them entered with the Kennel ID, will the code still recognize it is the same dog and tell me it's already entered?  Or will it duplicate the dog?

If they have an Agency ID, use the Agency ID for entering them - if they are already there, it won't let them be registered twice... of course, if the number was taken by an early secundi dog, there could be a conflict, but we can fix that if it happens

If you have a traded dog and you're not sure whether they are in there or not, you can post them (same info as if you wanted them switched, since they will need to be anyways, if they are there), and I can check for you

Getting ready to set uo the rules for the grab for this week - this week's trial will mostly be my original idea, and we'll see how the numbers come out.  Next week we'll try the adjusted math version.... I just don't feel like dealing with complicated math stuff this week >.>  And I wanted 4s to be less common, in keeping with the old limits - generally, if one person managed to get 4 or 5 points, chances were that everyone else would only get 2 or 3, depending on how many people were playing, since there were only 20 given out total >.>

@Kadana - I did have ideas for the multiple dogs getting points, too; very similar to what you've posted, so we'll try that once we see how this works in general O.o

Rules:

1-Everyone may post one grab phrase.
2-Phrase must be bold or colorful - if you choose to post in a color, I will try to use a die that matches the color you pick (or as close as I can, if you choose a really random color O.o).
3-Include a number between 1 and 4 somewhere in the post.
4-There will be a maximum of 20 grabbers allowed, but if we don't get that many before I go to run the comp, it won't be a big deal, since we are running this a bit differently today!
5-I will roll a d4 for each grabber, and compare it to the number chosen.  I will post the results with the list, so everyone can see how many points they got (everyone is guaranteed at least 1 point)
6-Since I got this started rather late, I will let it run overnight, and give people plenty of time to read over the rules, or correct posts, in case of errors.
7-If you do not want to try the die roll, make sure to post in bold only, and do not include a number.  You will get a point as usual.
8-This week, only one dog per grab, please.  And make sure that dog is entered in the comp.  We may try variations for multiple dogs in the future, but I want to see if this works at all first XD
9-Wait until the start time before posting grabs!  I want to make sure everyone has a chance to fully read the rules  Questions are allowed before (or after) the start time, of course.
