Note: Forum was built back when Howl's Island was going to be introduced on PI. It probably will not be used as much as it was originally planned. Inventories will still be kept on the forum, but most events and rp's will be held here on Secundi. You are welcome to post on the forum if you like, though.

A large flat rock stands in the center of a clearing, deep in the Darin Forest. A slight depression in the center appears to be the perfect size for a few Rune Stones. All are welcome here at any time of day or night.


The Summoning Stone will be present in every thread. At any time, you can post the form below to summon an Islander if you have at least two Creature Stones in your inventory. If you have any particular wish for your Islander (a specific gender or marking or coloring or stat, etc.), you may include that in the form and there's a 50/50 chance that Howl will hear your prayer. (NOTE: Only the equine+fish and the raptor+bat combo is available presently.)

Exploring the Island

Welcome to the Island. . . .
These first Howl's Island games will be familiarize you with the website and the world of Howl's Island. If you explore the website or forum you will discover there are 11 different Places of Note on the island.

Choose 1 place to explore in this game and post "I'm Exploring ____" in this thread. Dice roll will determine if you find anything interesting while you explore. Possible finds include premade Islanders and Rune Stones. What you might find and the odds of you finding anything are different for each of the 11 places.

More than 1 person can explore each place. Game ends June 21 20:00:00.

Writing a small rp about yourself exploring your choice of place will increase the odds of finding something, but is not required.

Today everyone is in the Darrin Forest. The area we're exploring stretches before you. You may choose 2 places to explore in the grid, but you may only look for a certain thing in that area. If you find it, you may take it with you!

The four possible prizes are:
C = Custom Stone
P = Premade
R = Random Rune Stones (2)
S = Stones of Your Choice (2)


The prizes have been already placed on the board, but you'll have to wait til after the game for the board to be flipped over and the prizes revealed. State which two places you're searching in, and what you're trying to find there. For example:

And if those prizes are located there, you win!

Note: Do NOT post any answers here in the thread. Answers must be sent by pm. Anyone found posting answers here will have to be disqualified.

I'm Exploring the Demon River

I'm feeling rather lost on this island, but somehow I feel a little less lost when I hear the sound of a river nearby.  I hurry to it, and promptly decide it shall be my guide - it's sure to lead to the ocean and the edge of the island.  I follow the direction of the water's flow, downhill, through forest and jungle, and finally arrive at the predicted beach.  Along the way I end up crossing various streams that join the river, and so my pant legs are soggy and my shoes are squelchy by the end of my journey.  Happily I've managed to avoid twisting my ankle on any loose riverbed rocks, something I've worried about ever since it happened to me once as a kid, and I've managed to avoid loosing a shoe to riverbank mud, something that's happened to me frequently, including last week.  I have not, however, managed to avoid receiving a few bug bites.  Guess I need to remember to bring the bug spray next time!

I'm Exploring the Undersea Coral Forest

Scuba diving gear could be expensive, but sera had, fortunately gotten a good deal on her rental and cheerfully slipped into the water.  One more adjustment of her mask and she dropped below the ways, excited about the rumours she'd hear of this area.

As she sinks lower, she gasps, releasing another stream of air bubbles to make their merry way to the surface.  It isn't just beautiful, it's gorgeous.  The bright colours of the coral are the first thing to catch her eye, but it's not long before she begins to notice the plants, fish, and crustaceans.  She laughs softly as a school of brightly coloured fish brush past her and they dart on their way.  She swims closer to the coral reaching out a hand before remembering that it's not wise to mess with these ecological systems.  She continues to explore the area happily; it is an underwater wonderland.

I admire the dappled boy, and smile. His colors seems to almost shift where the sunlight hits the water and ripples on his body. His true pattern seems a mystery. It dawns on me, that would be the perfect name! Mystery!

I'm exploring the summoning stone!

It makes the most sense to me to explore somewhere I will be most likely to want to know about. As there is a good chance I will need to return to this place time and time again, I decide to get familiar with the summoning stone area.

I can feel the power of this place tingling through me. The hair on my arms stands up like it would before a thunderstorm. I can see the places where stones have been placed, although I see none there now. I want to reach out and run my hand over the smooth depressions, but I am afraid to do something I'm not allowed to.

I explore the area around the stone. I look at the plants in the area, the path where summoners approach, and even study the clouds over the area, to see if they act any different when they get close to this holy place.

I hear a soft whickering sound, breaking me from my revalry, and I return to Mystery, who appearantly is hungry.

"I'm Exploring the Sadira Beaches!"

I wander along the golden sand, peeking into rockpools and under shells. Picking up a pretty shell, I squeal and drop it as I see little legs kicking out of it.

"A hermit crab!" I exclaim. Smiling, I turn it right side up and continue on my way. A piece of coral catches my eye, and I pick it up, twirling it in my fingers. "Ouch!" Of course, clumsy me, I had to cut myself on a piece of long-dead coral. Blood drips from my fingers. It is not a deep cut, but a long one. I quickly tear a piece off my old T-shirt, wash the wound in the sea (they say saltwater is good for injuries), and bandage it up.

I step up to my Islander girly trying not to grin too much. "Thank you for approaching me," I say, "I'm honored as well to become your Creator!" After thinking through several possible names I settle on Sage.

I'm Exploring Infinity Mountain!

I always look for an interesting place to start an adventure and when I saw the looming form of the mountain I knew I would have to start there. I was warned of the harsh conditions so I donned my climbing and cold weather gear and started upwards! The traveling was rough and rocky and my supplies dwindled away quickly. I pressed myself harder as I approached the summit and pulled myself up onto the last ledge. With an excited gasp I fell back in the snow and closed my eyes. Counting to three, I slipped off my orange-tinted snow goggles and stood up. I edged toward the close drop-off of the mountain peak and squinted my eyes as they adjusted to the glare of sunlight on the snow. When the world rushed into view I gasped and took in the spectacular view of the entire island laid out at my feet and swirling white clouds in every direction.

"I'm Exploring Deadlands"
Having met my new friend, I decided I wnated to explore the island.  Get to know this place that he called home some.  I poked around a bit and learned some basics about the differant area/regions, and decided that I wanted to check out the deadlands.  I was warned it is a bleak place, with little water to be found, let alone vegetation, so I made sure to prepare carefully.  I carried  a stout walking stick in my hand, and had various things attatched to my belt.. but my most important things were in the heavy pack on my back.  Mostly it was filled with extra water, but there were a few other things in there as well, including a travel first aid kit.

Having thus prepared myself, I head down off the of Infinity Mountain and step into the shadows of the Deadlands.  I had expected to see sand, as in the desert, but the ground was hard and firm beneath my feet.  Rocks occasionally find their way into my shoes and I bemoan my lack of forthought.. I should have worn hiking boots.  I'm happy enough just wandering around, but what I relaly want is to find a cave to explore.  With that in mind I poke around the cliffs, wishing I had a camera with me, when I stumble onto a small entrance to a cave.  Thinking about it a while, I decide to set up camp a little ways off, and watch the entrance for a while before entering.  I head back off a ways, and set up camp.  I'll bed down here for the night, and keep an eye on the entrance.  See if anything comes or goes.  I'd hate to just blunder in and disturb some creature in it's den.  I can't think of what would want to live here (except for maybe me, in my perverseness) but if anything does, it's bound to be dangerous and not appreciate being disturbed.  Sitting on my bedroll and sipping slowly at my water, I look around and sigh contentedly.  This place, it is beautiful.  A dangerous, and yes even bleak beauty, but still beautiful.

"I'm Exploring Darrin Forest"

I love trees so I head toward the Darrin Forest in the middle of the island. It takes my eyes a few minutes to adjust after being out in the bright sunlight, but when they do I am amazed at the beauty before me. The sun still finds it's way through the trees in spots warming the ground & lighting the way. But there is plenty of shade & shadows to hide in should one feel the need to hide. I walk through the forest at a leisurelly pace stopping to look at the various plant life around me & looking to see what sort of creatures live in this beautiful place.

Event Reveal:

There were 4 possible prizes for this game: premade Islander, Custom Stone, 2 random Rune Stones, or 2 Rune Stones of choice. Each of the 11 places got one of these prizes randomly.

The odds of finding a prize in your spot were randomly picked to be either 1 in 2, 1 in 3, or 1 in 4. If you roleplayed your scene, I took off one number. (So a "1 in 3" spot became a "1 in 2" spot)

SeaCrest: Looks up from her injured finger and finds Howl has suddenly appeared before her. "You may choose any two Rune Stones (except the Custom Stone) for yourself," he tells her.

Echowing: Almost stumbles upon a Taiutor but he runs off, chasing after a mouse.

Kadana: sees two glowing Rune Stones when she goes back to investigate that cave again!


Leafy: Passes close to Howl but he is distracted by a young Taiutor in need and runs off.

SweetCaroline: Is walking in the Forest when suddenly Howl appears before her. "You may choose any two Rune Stones (except the Custom Stone) for yourself," he tells her.

You're having trouble seeing the grid too? Hmm, so strange... Perhaps because it's a .jpg image instead of the more common .png image....

Anyway, you did fine. It's just a basic square with the boxes 1 - 9 in it.

Actually, .jpg should be more common or at least more widely supported than .png; it's an older format. I think the main reason .png took off is that it allowed transparent images without sacrificing color quality the way .gifs sometimes could.

Maybe PB is having another off day. Seems to be happening a bit lately.

Yes, back when I did professional website designing in my younger years all we used were .jpg and .gif lol. But I mean these days it's more common to use .png images. Anyway, it's probably PB, as you said. That place drives me crazy lately.
