I am generally giving foundation (gen one) mice basic genetics, meaning they won't carry much, if anything.

But... if you have an idea of what you would like to produce, let me know via PM and i'll see if i can get them carrying a few bits for you.

WillowDragon

YLO's recoloured mice:

Wow... a couple of them almost killed me.  Neeed break

WillowDragon

Neocridders

All of indigo's babies are gorgeous. Now I wish I knew a thing or two about mice genetics... I want some babies <3

Hehehe ;) So so cute on all of YLO's girls. They are so amazing!

YourLoveOnly

Ooooh they are so gorgeous =o
Only one I'm not too fond of is the fawn brindle, but that has always been that way and it's probably because I imagined a different coloring in the first place xD *was thinking of the fawn color in rabbits and didn't know how brindle would look at all* I guess I was expecting pale red, not darker and greyish. My own mistake.

Lookky's are amazing too! O.o
*stalks around for babies*

Lookky wants to know if his mice would make interesting babies and if not: what mice of mine would be good mates to his?

By the way, I was wondering, are the guinea pigs being nice to you already? :P
Cute but stubborn little things =3 Teehee. Not in a rush at all, was just wondering if they have stopped annoying you xD

(by the way, Hunni still owns me a free breeding as part of our pet trade)

Poupou

*confused* Are breedings open? If so, how do I breed mine? XD

YourLoveOnly

They were when hunni was running them and some people are still waiting on growings.
I think willow is gonna recert, renumber etc all of them first and then start everything back up. I thiiink xD

WillowDragon

Yesh... let me sort stuff out before opening up stuff normally  LOL

And yeah... i'm not overly fond of pink eyed american brindles (Its actually known as Dove Brindle, but i didn't want to confuse you  lol) or any american brindles if i'm totally honest  :-\  LOL

There is a european brindle I may be bringing into Rodentia... but its complicated genetics wise and i don't want to confuse people anymore than I already am!  LOL   They are much prettier though...

Lookky's babies when bred together would make normal black brindles in the first generation... if those offspring were then bred together, you would have a chance of brindle, choc brindle, broken brindle, broken choc brindle, black, choc, broken black and broken choc... *gasps*
But all that depends on whether people are alright with inbreeding... it happens in real life so i'm fine with it in Rodentia, in moderation.

W xx

YourLoveOnly

Will have to think about the inbreeding thing.. I'm usually against it.
Let's assume I decide against it, then what interesting pairings do you suggest?
Can be all mine, or one of mine with one of Lookky.

And I love Lookky's brindled one. Both of his actually. I wish I ordered them for myself xD
But yea, he's my boyfriend, so I can borrow them ^^

Taruia

Inbreeding and linebreeding in mice and rats is almost required, and if done properly has no repercussions for the offspring. The most reputable breeders out there have mice and rats that can be up to 25% inbred. As long as the inbreeding and linebreeding is closely monitored it actually helps strengthen good lines and find dangerous hidden traits that can then be bred out.

Reality is only for those who lack imagination.

WillowDragon

What Taru said..  ;D

I'm done for the night peeps... probably won't get much colouring done over the weekend, I am working, and I work 12 hour shifts  :-\

YourLoveOnly

I know it is, that's why I am considering it :)
But then again, lotsa breeders also do culling. I know why, I think willow does it herself too?
I dunno, I just couldn't possibly do it, although I know it is supposed to be done to get better and stronger pets. I wouldn't look down upon people who actually do use that method, I just would never be able to do it myself.

Kadana Sorano

I'd be happy if inbreeding was to be allowed.  It would make a refreshing change, since most things don't allow it.  but other then that, it would simply be less of a pain, trying to keep track of who's related way down the road.

Kadana gets pick of the litter off mine- she said Coffee boy, letting her post to confirm that's still the one she wants.

Oh, are you holding to the limit of we can keep 3 from a breeding and the rest must be traded?

I still want the coffee colored one yes, thank you :)

Any reputable breeder would NEVER cull a healthy viable baby. However they would inbreed and linebreed. The only time culling would occur was if the baby was deformed, or because they would die anyways, and putting them to sleep would be a kinder option.

ETA: From a breeder I trust and respect. This is on her website and in her contract I signed when I got my boys from her. "I will never cull/euthanize a rat without a valid medical reason. Any rats I breed that are not adopted out will remain with me until adopted."

Reality is only for those who lack imagination.

Poupou

Finally found her.  I didn't realize she was already in the other thread. Ugh. x.x
Feel free to recolor if you want, I don't mind. :)

I'll keep the same name except for the PLR. ^^

I don't know much about rodent breeding specifically, but I do know a few things about livestock breeding in general, and I have to agree with Taru here based on that knowledge.  Careful inbreeding and linebreeding are tools that can help a breeder "fix" certain traits that are considered desirable, and close inbreeding is sometimes used when a new mutation pops up to help determine if it is dominant or recessive.

I am not a breeder myself and have no firsthand experience, but the above is my opinion based on what I've read in breed books and on the Internet.

Strong opinions there Taru  ;)   And this is where the Rat and Mouse fancy differ greatly... culling is standard practice in the mouse fancy, especially when breeding for show.
I'm not going to get into it here, yes I do cull, BUT I have been taught several different methods at college how to do it quickly and as humanely as possible.

Obviously it won't be a part of Rodentia, because it won't need to be, litters are going to cap at 5. And they aren't going to become sick or dying.

@Willow: yea I looked up your mousery a while back, I was curious to see your mice ^^ so that's why I knew ;)

I agree with kadana about it being less of a hassle. Secundi has pedigree pages now, but not all dogs are on there so it can still be hard to keep track. Without a pedigree system and pets having multiple offspring it's gonna be incredibly hard, if not impossible, after a while. So I do agree that it's easier and it would also be an interesting new thing to figure out. Like the suggestion of breeding Lookky's mice, breeding two of the offspring together and then have a shot at 9 different outcomes O.o That's so awesome.

I would like to name this little guy I got from Kadana "Roman" please

Spookaloo

Midnight:

keeping 1 trading 1 of the twins. But since thier ID's arent correct yet, i guess it's safe to name 1 now.

Jill:

The last pair I need to wait and see if I end up trading male or female.

WillowDragon

Will get down to more certing/ colouring etc on monday... i'm exhausted now, and will be tomorrow night aswell  lol

Hope everyone has a lovely easter tomorrow  ;D

BabyKittenCandy

Ok, Apparantly i have to post this guy here :)

Im perfectly happy with his colouring so you can skip the re-colour, less work for you, hurray :)
Dont think i need to post anything else?

WillowDragon

Hunni has not gotten back to me yet about sending me the .psd's for the critters that aren't getting re-coloured, and I cannot fix the certs by hand, because they are transparent, believe me, i've tried  lol

Anybody who doesn't want thier critter re-coloured, I hope you are willing to wait. If not, then let me know, I don't mind recolouring.

W xx

indigowulf

These 2 go to Neocridders please (one sable is a twin so I dont know which image is which lol):

and this last for me, named Aladdin please:

Poupou

Well, if it's too hard for you to re-cert and all, just recolor the one I posted earlier (on this page) - I'll be happy to get another Willow-colored one! Tee-hee!  ;D

WillowDragon

Apologies for not doing as much as what I wanted to over that last couple of days... I have been alot more busy than what I thought I was going to be IRL  :P

Just a quick notice!

I still haven't recieved .psd's for people who don't want thier rodents re-coloured... this is holding me back.
If I still haven't recieved them by the weekend, I will be recolouring and recerting all rodent images I have left to renumber. Apologies to all people who didn't want this

Kadana Sorano

nerrr OK, I pm'd Hunni then to see if she can send them, as I just relaly like mine as they are colored now and don't want them redone.

I PM'ed Hunni and recieved no reply, please let me know if you get a response.

I will be starting to recolour and recert tomorrow, I will try and keep them as close to how they are while making them more realistically coloured.

Kadana Sorano

I did get a reply yes, seems she has to wait to get to her grandmothers before she can send them though.

Hehe... got the lines for the Weanling show type mouse done.  I am pleased.

YourLoveOnly

By the way I was wondering on the general rules for this adoptie? I think Hunni handled trading/breeding etc a lot differently. Can only weanlings be traded or do you also allow trading of adults?

WillowDragon

Weanlings may be traded at any time while they are still weanlings... Adults may only be traded during a trading season.

Any and all information about this adoptable will be put in threads once I catch up and start events and such properly.  :D

I *hope* to make a simple website for them too that will have information on it about genetics, rules etc...

W xx

Poupou

Oh she's gorgeous, Willow!  Thank you very much!! <3 :3

WillowDragon

You're very welcome Pou  =o)

Still haven't recieved any .psd's... recolouring and recerting will begin on thursday.

WillowDragon

WillowDragon
