I could really use some good thoughts right now

My dog, Callie, had bloody diarrhea and vomiting this morning.  She'd been having very loose stools for the last day or two, relatively sudden onset.  Her regular vet doesn't open until 9, and I really can't afford the emergency vet (the regular vet at least takes payment plans)

Callie has had periodic episodes of diarrhea before, but they usually resolved within a few days and none of them has ever been bloody.  So I don't know what this one means but it obviously is NOT GOOD.  She and I could both use some good karma right now.  She doesn't seem to be in shock, but when she got up from her sleeping position just now, her fur along her hindquarters was standing up....so she's clearly in pain, and there's nothing I can do right now but wait.

I really hope she'll be fine, spring, and I'll keep you both in my mind.  Please let us know what the vet says.

Just got back from the vet's office with some good news - they couldn't feel any obstructions in her gut on palpation, nor did any parasites show up in her stool.  All that showed up was a slightly elevated Clostridium count.  So hopefully that's all it is and the bleeding was just from the irritation.

They gave us a bland diet and some medication to help control her diarrhea, and the usual instructions to call back or bring her in again if it persists, but hopefully this isn't as serious as I feared.  She's currently curled up in her kennel, napping - her favorite way to relax after being in a stressful situation.  And I'm on vacation this week, so I will be home a lot more and can keep an eye on her in case anything worse develops.

Well, if she keeps doing her 'normal' things, I think she'll be alright! :)  Glad to hear there was nothing serious!

We had to get that bland diet thing for one of our dogs, it really ended up being less then what we paid in dog food. The vet told us one cup of white rice and i think either one cup or 1/2 cup of cottage cheese 2 times a day. The rescue we got him from didnt stick with one kind of food and he was sensitive to diet changes. We jus kept him on the bland diet it worked wonders.

Glad to hear shes doing okay though!

An update, and good news - the diarrhea has stopped, so the bland diet and antibiotics seem to be working!  Yay!

(She actually hasn't pooped since Wednesday, but I'm not real worried as she had had very little food on the Tuesday and of course next to nothing on Wednesday - just enough to take her pills with.  At any rate, the food is staying down when she eats it.)
