Continuing my walk along the kennels I arrive at the section I have been indicated will be the best fit. Looking at the pups here the busy bees seem a bit too busy and hyper active and I worry they will be a bit too boisterous with my children (who are right wusses!) I glance over and see this sweet lil boy with his head cocked to one side and an amusing expression on his little face. His soft brown eyes search mine and I can't help but smile. I think I might have found the pup for me.

sera's spent a few hours playing with kitties, happy to see when a cat is chosen and taken home amidst pleased smiles, and happy mews.  There are some absolutely gorgeous cats here, and whilst she's waiting to meet some cats in the suggested subcategory--she certainly doesn't want to rush the lovely people who had gotten here before her--she strolls around to give them privacy.

She's surprised to see a little white paw batting between the bars of a dark colored cage.  Curious, sera wanders over and is stopped by a pair of pale blue eyes and a very pointed, "Mrrruow?"

Charmed, sera draws close and reaches out her hand to lightly tap on the extended paw.  "Well, hello there, sweetie."

Instant purrs reward her attention and sera laughs when the white paw circles around just enough to bat at the top of her hand.  "Yes, it's a pleasure to meet you, too!"

It's obvious that the cat is interested in listening so sera begins chatting about her house and the three dogs there.  "And Link is always so anxious, but he's really starting to bloom!"

She doesn't realize she's been there for fifteen minutes until someone comes to check on her.  With an embarrassed laugh, sera glances over at the cat she's been hanging out with.  "Uhm... is there anyway that this one might be available?"  She can't help the hopeful gaze, especially when the cat sticks her paw out again to bat at the shelter worker, as though to encourage them to be a part of the conversation as well.

[Nako]

"I want a low-key cat."  Nako said as she sat down in the 'Orange Room', a color point kitty jumping up into her lap. She sat the cat back down.

"A cat that'll give me attention when I am in the mood for it. You know, a perfect cat."  The little moggy sat down on her feet and groomed itself. Nako stood up to check out the cats on some carpet-lined shelves, and little moggy chased her shoestrings.

"I want a cat that likes toys." Nako went to pick up a toy, and little moggy grabbed her sleeve. Oh no, don't choose that one. Choose the one with the feathers, obviously.  Your neck sure looks cold, human. I'll just rest there.

Nako sighed and pet the living cat scarf. "Or you know, this cat'll be great too."

Walking through the rows of kennels, the shelter attendant stops at this girl. She's sitting off to the side, but once we stop at her she comes up to say hi with a big smile on her face. It's an easy choice to make.


After playing with the other kitties, I decide to take this little girl home.

As I head down the hallway to the room where the more rambunctious cats are playing together, I pass a quiet kitten laying in a cage near the entrance. She gives me a look and reaches out her paw through the bars as I pass by, trying to reach me. I am easily won over by a girl who seems so intent on making a connection with me and I ask to adopt her.



(PS: True story. This is exactly how I got Kohaku back in 2003. ^_^ )
