What are Whimsies?

Whimsies are built off of fragments of imagination. They are created from the moment of joy at overcoming a fear, or the simple pleasures of dancing in the rain. They can come from a wealth of despair, the only friend in a cruel sad world. Anything that summons dreams or nightmares, whimsies can be created from.

The Contest

It is in that vein that this contest has come! Each whimsy has a little story behind their creation, something small to explain that moment that belief brought them into existence. It is your job to create that blurb.

The first Whimsy, Flicker, is am example of a sample:
Flicker is still fresh and new to this world, anxiously flitting about on its improbably small wings. The whimsy's beacon, teacher and guide is a firefly, which Flicker follows dutifully wherever he goes. The firefly is a real insect, however the power of whimsy has expanded both his intelligence and lifespan. Flicker was born the moment a child's fear of the dark was vanquished by a nightlight.

What this is not: This is not a list of traits or animals or colors. These are fragments of emotion come to life. Think about what is creating the whimsy more than what the Whimsy might look like.

What you need to know

• Only one entry per person
• The blurb can be no longer than 100 words long.
• Ends July 7, noon Secundi time.
• You can write a pet into the blurb, but keep in mind that most pets are insects or small spirits. They are typically simple to draw, as complicated designs are much more rare. Adding a pet in may make it more difficult for your entry to win.
• Your blurb will be used either in entirety, or in part for the creature made if you win. By submitting, you agree that I reserve the right to edit your entry as is needed to fit the creature I create.

Rosedawn's Entry!!

'Snips and snails and puppy dog tails' That is what little boys, and apparently this whimsy, are made of. The classic rhyme has been chanted for decades, bringing power and belief to those words until one day this little whimsy popped into creation. They may not be made of sugar, or spice, or anything nice, but they have a serious love of adventure! And dirt.

Do you recall falling in love for the first time? That childhood crush type of feeling? This Whimsy is born from all the little moments that build up to just that! The nerves that came with opening up and asking someone out, that first time you held hands, that first tentative peck. It's a bit of a nervous Whimsy, but it's a total sweetheart and will hold a special place in your heart for sure.

What's the most wonderful feeling you ask? How about holding your newborn for the very first time? You get the special feelings all during the pregnancy, but the best feeling in the world is the first time they place that tiny human in your arms, the first time you get to kiss that tiny face and count those perfectly shaped fingers and toes. This whimsy is created from that feeling of pure joy and happiness, the best feelings in the world.

Dont be fooled by how this little whimsy looks, they are actually quite sweet and a little nervous. After all, being created from that tingle and shiver down your spine when you feel like your being watched is a little creepy!
