So my project for the past couple months has been creating a tool where people can write short stories collaboratively!

You can visit it here to get a sense of what it's like with some "fake" stories (the current story is just a copy-pasted folktale).

Basically the idea is that there's a lead author that controls the overall direction of the story, and creates mini-writing prompts for sections of the story. Other people can contribute pieces of writing to address that writing prompt. For example, the lead author can create a prompt at the beginning of the story that says something like "I have characters X and Y, but are not sure how they should meet. Maybe someone wants to try to write this part?"

I'm wondering if Secundi would be willing to try it out :) Perhaps if someone started a story, the rest of us could pitch in to write it together! We could write a regular short story or it could even be useful for things like RP adoptable events. I would lead a story myself, but I'm too biased to get a balanced perspective on what works and what doesn't.

Does this sound like it could be fun to anyone?

I am very interested! i am sick right now or I would go and start one :-p

Yay, I'm glad to hear you're interested, Sunny :D But I'm sorry to hear that you're sick! Get better soon... it's just that time of year where colds and flu are unavoidable :x

Welp, I was able to partner up with the creative writing department at my school -- I'm running a writing competition to help kickstart usage of the tool, and the prize is $500 and publication in the Stanford Arts Review! :)

I know many of you like to write, so if you're interested please do join in! I'll copy-paste the official announcement below.

Submissions are now open for the very first Stanford Story Slam! With a team, use the new and experimental Ensemble collaborative writing platform to write and enter a short story you create with a team. While providing invaluable feedback on how to improve the platform, you will also be one of the first to try out a novel way of working together with other writers.

The winning collaboration will receive $500, publication in the Stanford Arts Review and hold the distinction of pioneering collaborative story making on the web. Submissions are due April 22, 2013.

Ensemble is a project coming out of the Human-computer Interaction group at Stanford University, with the goal of designing and discovering new ways of supporting creative work.
