Mailing lists?

Like we used to do on PI back in the day, would organizing a mailing list be an option on here? This way we can notify people of upcoming events so they can at least attempt to be online for them? I'd happily take the time to create a mailing list of people who want to be on for Unbridled events, but would there be a way to make it a one-click deal as opposed to bcc'ing 40 other people too?

Thoughts? Ideas? Criticisms?

I used to go on mailing lists, and it was ok, but when youg et 50+pm's for differnt events that are all out of your price range or not when you can attand the lists get to be annoying.

I also HATE havign to try and remember to send a mailing list reminder of an event, and what if I decide to do an impromptu event right after another finishes?  then I have to send another PM which creates spam.

I liek this way no mailing lists, just random luck

I don't like them either and I don't think we need them here. Secundi isn't that big yet, we don't have a Generals board with lots of pages that have active events. All events currently running still fit on the first page and should be easy for everyone to find. Announcing events up front can be easily done in-thread or in a thread title. If we grow bigger I would approve of this, but right now I don't see why we would need it.

On PI it was a thousand different adoptables fighting for the front page and customers. Secundi is quieter and smaller, so I really can't see any need for mailing lists. I look at the generals threads every day, and it's not like PI where pages from within a day could be 5 pages back within the day. It's likely to stay on the front page for atleast a few weeks, if not a month.

;) But if you want to have a mailing list, go for it. But I'd not join it. I would totally participate, I just don't want PMs unless they are conversations or important questions and stuff. I would already see the adoptable threads for generals anyway.

As an official Secundi Council Note Thinger (trademark pending) I'd like to say that our current messaging system is entirely forum based, ie. it came with the forum code.

We've been looking for months for an alternative that Silv could code that would be more efficient. As it is, tweaking the current message code - code written by someone else - could have disastrous and stressful results. So we kinda just leave it alone XD

I agree, its quiet enough here that its not really needed yet. If someone really really wants to do it, theres always email, provided your fans are willing to share thier email and sign up for updates.
