It means what number the kittens were born in. So the first kitten in a litter is the number 1.

I know, I saw that somewhere in the thread, but when trading in other threads, or via pm and such, unless the person trading a kit to you tells you its litter number then you won't know without searching the thread.  I'd still love to see the numbers on the kitten images themselves in future, if at all possible.  It would be especially nice for those who save baby images.
