Well then.

One minute, you're walking through the woods, and then next, you're stumbling through some sort of shimmering portal into a dimly-lit cave. Really, you should be more careful.

You look around.

There's a startled dragon, sitting back on his haunches, not much bigger than a man. He's stirring a large cauldron. He blinks at you.

"Hello..."

You stammer out a greeting.

Colorful smoke billows up out of the cauldron, and the dragon hastily switches his attention back to the pot. "I'm... summoning things. Or trying to," he explains, no longer all that concerned with you, as the pot clearly needs his focus. "Good things, of course! I'm not some kind of necromantic goon or anything. Just trying to summon pretty, happy things. You know. That kind of thing."

You aren't sure you know what he's talking about, but you feel like politely nodding might be a good idea.

He shrugs, still peering into the pot. "I have a cousin that does this professionally, so I figured I'd try it out." He huffs out a sigh. "He has a lot of assistants, though, I think. Meanwhile, I've already run out of supplies." He stops stirring for a moment. "Wait, you can help me!"

You aren't so sure about this, but hear him out all the same.

"I can't leave to get more stuff. But you can! So, here's what to do. You just go through those portals over there--" he motions with his tail to a series of glimmering, colorful bubbles floating in the air, much like the one that brought you here-- "and you take something from each of the places you find yourself in. Just one thing from each place. Then you come back, and toss 'em all into the pot, and we see what happens!"

This does not sound very scientific.

"Whadya say? Help a dragon out?"

Rules

Once per day, you can try to help the dragon.

-Pick one item from each of the portal-places. After an item is chosen, it is no longer available for other people to choose-- I'll try to keep the list updated, but check what other people choose before you post!

-Certain combinations of items will have certain results, but it's a secret as to what they are!

-You can win multiple prizes.

-Please use the form when you return from the portals!

-IF this proves popular enough, maybe I'll add more items or locations. We'll see.

This looks like some sort of hunting cabin. Peering through the windoes, you see only woods beyond. What would you like to take?

Things go into the pot, maybe things come out of the pot...

Kahlira - Day 1
Kahlira carefully dumps the glove, knife, rose and tankard of ale into the cauldron at the dragon's instruction. He stirs, and the items disappear into the goop already in the cauldron. After a few seconds, there's a loud popping sound, and a huge bubble rises from the mixture, filled with something white and snowy. The bubble floats a few feet into the air, and pops. Both Kahlira and the dragon are coated in a slightly sticky rose petals.

The dragon sighs. "Oh, well. It was a good try. Maybe tomorrow..."

SkySong - Day 1
Skysong returns with the selected items-- the bell, kettle, tulip, and drum. They're a noisy bunch of things, aside from the tulip, and they clang together as they get dumped into the pot. The dragon stirs.
After a minute or two, the sounds of a brass band flow out of the pot. Nothing changes, visually, but for around ten minutes, it sounds as though a cheerful parade is marching through the cave.
"Well, that was unexpected," the dragon comments. "Maybe tomorrow we'll get something more tangible, though..."

Ember - Day 1
The bon-bons, salt, wisteria, and shiny pocketwatch all go into the cauldron. The dragon stirs. Very soon, a tick-tocking sound can be heard... and then a burst of scent fills the room. It starts out like flowers, but then shifts to... cookies? With a final loud TOCK, cookies fly out of the cauldron. Salted caramel cookies, specifically.

"...well, at least we have a snack? Better luck tomorrow, maybe..."

Riverwind - Day 1
Riverwind returns and tosses in the pillow, herbs, lilac, and fiddle. A strange mixture, perhaps, but hey, what is there to lose?
The dragon stirs, and after a few minutes, the liquid in the pot starts bubbling. After another moment, a little head emerges, followed by the rest of the body. Why, it's a Miniwyv!

"Oh! It worked! It worked!" The dragon is delighted. "Granted, I was hoping for something bigger. Maybe you can take this little one home?"

YLO - Day 1
YLO returns from the portals and tosses in her loot-- the mirror, flower bouquet, ceramic pieces, and bread. As the dragon stirs, a strange fluttering noise can be heard. It grows louder, but there's nothing to be seen, until suddenly, directly above the cauldron, a Miniwyv pops into existance out of thin air! Yay!

"Another one of these things?" The dragon shakes his head, though he seems pleased that it worked, at least. "You keep this one."

Kahlira - Day 2
It's a new day... so let's throw some new stuff in a pot! Kah returns from the portals with a ring, a little rooster, some hydrangea, and the dregs of some coffee. Into the cauldron with it! The scent of the coffee grows and grows as the dragon stirs, and the sounds of a rooster can be heard, faintly at first, and then louder and louder. Suddenly, the sound morphs, turning from rooster to a loud, obnoxious ringing. An alarm clock floats to the surface of the liquid in the cauldron.

You summoned an... alarm clock? Good job.

The dragon fishes out the loud object, and turns it off with a sigh. "Well, that wasn't very successful."

Riverwind - Day 2
Back through the portals, and back out again! This time, Riverwind throws some soap, a mortar and pestle, basil, and smelling salts into the pot. As the dragon stirs, the color of the liquid changes to something that looks like... stew? But then it starts to bubble up. Not as if it's boiling, but as if it's a bubble bath. It overflows out of the pot, coating both Riverwind and the dragon. There are flower-scented bubbles everywhere now, but the liquid is a very off-putting shade of beef broth brown.

"...I don't even have words for this. Maybe tomorrow will be better," the dragon huffs.

Ember - Day 2
Ember vanishes into the portals, and comes back with a hairbrush, garlic, watering can, and lute. The items are all tossed into the pot. The dragon stirs. Nothing happens. The dragon stirs more. Still, nothing happens. The dragon stirs harder. There's a hum in the air. The dragon continues stirring... and then garlic-scented glitter rains down from the cave's ceiling.

The dragon shakes glitter off of his face. "I don't even understand that result at all..."

Country - Day 4
Into the pot with the perfume bottle, peppers, hedge trimmers, and coins! This can't go wrong, right? It's the perfect combo! Maybe!
The dragon stirs, and the scent of perfume wafts through the air... punctuated by a sharper, spicier smell. A metallic jangle can be heard... and then coins fly back out of the pot, landing all around Country. They are no longer sticky.

"Might as well gather them up and put them to good use. I don't need 'em," the dragon says. Country gathers up the 2000sg. Better than nothing...

Ember - Day 5
Ember retrieves the last of the decent items from the portals-- a necklace, potato sack, metal tools, and partial pot pie. It's a weird mix of things, and the dragon eyes it skeptically, especially after his slew of recent failures. He doesn't seem very hopeful when he stirs.
The color of the liquid in the pot changes, taking on shades of pink, brown, and ivory. Little clanging sounds fill the air, not unpleasantly loud. The dragon stops stirring, peering into the pot, and then a little head pops out! Oh, hey, it's a Miniwyv!



"Another of these things?" the dragon mumbles. "Well, take it home with you, I don't need it..."

Country - Day 5
Country returns from the portals. The dragon eyes the objects warily as she dumps them into the cauldron... jerky, rum, doll, and stabby stick. He dutifully stirs. The liquid turns blood red.
There is an abrupt screeching sound, followed by terrifying, high-pitched giggling laughter, which abruptly ends in a hiccup, followed by silence.

"Uh... I'm kind of glad we didn't summon anything from those things, I think. Can you bring less spooky stuff tomorrow?"

Kahlira - Day 6
Kah returns with the quail, coral, rainbow painting (of course), and the ring of keys. One by one, they go into the pot. The dragon looks hopeful.
The liquid in the pot changes color, again and again, shifting from one hue of the rainbow to the next. It's actually a very pretty show to watch. The dragon continues to stir, slowly, and then his stirring spoon bumps something. He fishes the item out.
"Not what I was hoping for, but... well, do you need this?"

Ember - Day 6
In goes the hunting knife. In go the clams. In goes the xylophone, and the bottle of Ether. The dragon looks skeptical. He stirs.
Colors swirl through the pot. Silver and red... blue and tan... pink and cyan, and finally, the color settles on a shade of gray. The mixture begins to boil, and then erupts outward. Both Ember and the dragon jump back. When things settle, there's a Miniwyv hovering above the pot.

"I swear to the heavens... why are these the only creatures I seem to be able to summon?" The dragon sounds quite dejected. "Take it with you..."

YLO - Day 6
YLO returns from the portals with an armful, which is dumped into the pot. Whistle, bracelet, blanket and chain all vanish into the murky liquid. The dragon once again stirs.
For a few moments, nothing seems to happen, but then, with a loud QUACK, objects begin to fly out of the pot and rain down throughout the cave.
They're jewels! ...in the shape of barnacles!

"Weird," is the dragon's only remark, as he scoops some of the barnacle-jewels into a bag nearby.

Kahlira - Day 6
Kah's trip out and back results in a torch, harmonica, plate of crumbs, and some... meat. Even the dragon doesn't seem to want to get too close to that meat, but he stirs dutifully.
The mixture begins to simmer. It starts to smell like stew. Little tiny cookies float to the top.

Congratulations. You've made questionable cookie-meat stew!

YLO - Day 7
YLO returns with more items! Into the pot go the arrows, the rope, the jack-in-the-box, and the manacles. The dragon stirs.
A repetitive children's song begins to play. The dragon frowns. "This doesn't bode well," he mumbles, but he keeps stirring. The tempo of the song increases, until it's a frenzied tune, and the dragon drops his spoon and backs away from the cauldron. You do the same.
It's a good thing both of you do, because a few seconds later, the liquid inside explodes outward in a violent splash. You narrowly avoid getting scaled.

"...I don't know if I want to do this anymore," the dragon states.

Kahlira - Day 7
Kahlira gleefully tosses her items into the pot-- Deer Musk, fish skeletons, milk, and gruel. Maybe there will be more bizarre stew today! The dragon sighs. He doesn't seem all that into this activity anymore, but he stirs.
The pot bubbles pleasingly. The smells of good food waft out. Well, it seems that Kah has a knack for making weird cauldron food. In fact, the stuff in the pot looks more and more like a home-cooked meal. Not stew. A whole meal. The liquid in the pot solidifies. The dragon can no longer stir.
He pulls a plate of roast venison and grilled fish out of the pot. There is a pleasing creamy sauce on the venison.

Magic is weird.

He shrugs, offering Kah some, and then eats his portion.

Ember - Day 7
Ember's newly-found items go into the pot-- corn, bandanna, ointment, and rag. The dragon is looking very depressed at this point, but he stirs all the same.
The liquid-- he refilled the pot after the last bizarre episode-- starts to smell lovely, thanks to the lavender ointment, it would seem. Then the smell changes, wafting out the aroma of an ocean breeze. It's not unpleasant, tinged with lavender... but when the scent again changes to popcorn, followed by the coppery tang of blood, it's a little disorienting. The liquid seems to settle, somehow managing to smell like all of those things at once.

"Well, I guess we could market it as some sort of weird perfume?" The dragon sighs.

A repetitive children's song begins to play. The dragon frowns. "This doesn't bode well," he mumbles, but he keeps stirring. The tempo of the song increases, until it's a frenzied tune, and the dragon drops his spoon and backs away from the cauldron. You do the same.
It's a good thing both of you do, because a few seconds later, the liquid inside explodes outward in a violent splash. You narrowly avoid getting scaled.

"...I don't know if I want to do this anymore," the dragon states.

Kahlira - Day 7
Kahlira gleefully tosses her items into the pot-- Deer Musk, fish skeletons, milk, and gruel. Maybe there will be more bizarre stew today! The dragon sighs. He doesn't seem all that into this activity anymore, but he stirs.
The pot bubbles pleasingly. The smells of good food waft out. Well, it seems that Kah has a knack for making weird cauldron food. In fact, the stuff in the pot looks more and more like a home-cooked meal. Not stew. A whole meal. The liquid in the pot solidifies. The dragon can no longer stir.
He pulls a plate of roast venison and grilled fish out of the pot. There is a pleasing creamy sauce on the venison.

Magic is weird.

He shrugs, offering Kah some, and then eats his portion.

Ember - Day 7
Ember's newly-found items go into the pot-- corn, bandanna, ointment, and rag. The dragon is looking very depressed at this point, but he stirs all the same.
The liquid-- he refilled the pot after the last bizarre episode-- starts to smell lovely, thanks to the lavender ointment, it would seem. Then the smell changes, wafting out the aroma of an ocean breeze. It's not unpleasant, tinged with lavender... but when the scent again changes to popcorn, followed by the coppery tang of blood, it's a little disorienting. The liquid seems to settle, somehow managing to smell like all of those things at once.

"Well, I guess we could market it as some sort of weird perfume?" The dragon sighs.

Country returns from the portal and flings in her findings-- the pelt, flag, rattle and rat. The dragon looks dubious, but stirs.

Weird smells assail your noses. The brew turns bizarre colors. Smoke drifts out of the pot. But, then, a Miniwyv drifts out, too! Hooray!

"Well, good job, I guess," the dragon says.

YLO brings back the last objects she can find. It's a long shot, and the dragon doesn't look confident as he stirs the stuff into the pot.

Sure enough, nothing happens. The dragon, sighing heavily, starts to pack up. "Well, this wasn't as successful as I'd hoped. Maybe I'll come back some other day."
