The Untamed - Overhaul?

Alrighty so I've looked over The Untamed's linearts, other than the Wolverine which was probably drawn.... somewhere between 2 and 3 years ago the others are probably at least 4 years old and quite frankly some of them look pretty average.

I've made slight edits to the male wolverine and wolf, adjusting the position of the legs but some of the linearts still really need to be altered or redrawn. The problem is I can't decide which, some of the poses I think are quite nice and I worry I won't be able draw them quite the same so I'm turning this one over to everyone, where do we go from here?

In the case of redraw all linearts, I want to know whether you guys would like poses redrawn as they are or redrawn in new poses for example, the female wolf pose is one I sort of like but it doesn't show the back and therefore doesn't really show a lot of markings well so if we changed the pose to say something more like this:

I like that new pose you've sketched for the wolf lady! I agree that for lady wolf and wolverine a pose that shows markings better may be helpful. For example, Panda Shrimps have a female who is facing towards the viewer as well but I made sure I can still see all her body parts (legs, bum, belly, back etc) so that all markings are visible.

Other than that I'd say what feels best to you. I don't think any of the other poses need to be redone completely or whatever, but it doing tiny redraws/edits makes you happier with the artwork than by all means do so <3 A happy artist helps tons!

Thanks for the imput I might sketch a new pose for the female wolverine as another example shortly but for now I'm going to have to rush off I was thinking I had plenty of time to write up a poll and discuss reposing but there's finally a break in the weather, so if I go for a walk now I only have a 50% chance of getting soaked, Melbourne weather is crazy yesterday it was super hot and today it's bucketing down...

I'm glad you like them but I'm a little surprised the Fennec Foxes get so much love personally I thought I did the worst job on their poses.

I really like the way all of the males are done! Would love a female wolverine pose that you could see the back on. I like the females fox poses just not their faces as much as their male counterparts for some reason XD

I like all the male linearts! The females i think could all do with different poses, I like facing forwards but perhaps not sitting down, and with more shown. I love that new post for female wolves!
Not including fennec foxes in that. They do seem a little different, and i for one prefer the other breeds

In my opinion, the Female Wolf pose you sketched up would look better, and it'll definantly show the markings more, which is a plus

Fennec foxes, I love them, but the tongue sticking out on the girl is just weird to me. XD Mabye edit the face of her? The male looks fine to me though

Wolverines I havent been really keen on. Dunno if it sthe pose or if I just don;t like the animal.. XD So I'm indifferent on those. Well, the female posed where you can see her markings would be nice.

I think for both the wolverine and wolf females, if they are in a different pose; theyd look nicer, more feminine, and you could see the markings on them better.

Sorry for late replies, December is a hard time of year for me so I'm working very slowly, spent most of the last two weeks lost in a video game trying to forget about the time of year,

So been working on the female wolf pose a little more resketched it a few times attempted to draw the lines but I can't get it to look right so I'll be trying to fix a few things, also feels kind of big, this is it on the cert at 70% of the original size, might need to make it 65%,

I've sketched a new pose for the female wolverine as well but I sketched it in my sketchbook so I need to borrow a scanner before I can post it here. I'm thinking of redrawing every line art, maybe keep the poses everyone likes let me know what you guys think.

Fennecs I would like to redraw completely when I drew them it was the first time I'd drawn fennec foxes and I was like 'oh noes how do I draw fennecs?' I'm sure I could do better now, maybe I'll sketch them tonight see how it goes.

Funny how people don't seem to like wolverines, I love them, I just think wolverines are awesome animals and those cute little ears... maybe because they're viewed as scavengers, I'm also not sure I like how I drew them though either but as I like them so much they're highly likely to be reworked.

Well I'd love them to look nicer but I'm not sure I'll intentionally make the females look more feminine, maybe I'll make them slightly smaller than the males, I don't know why but it seems to be a lot of animal artists especially some of the ones who draw those sparklewolves on DeviantART like to draw animals with really ridiculous exaggerated gender differences, males with Gaston chins, females with super long eyelashes...  I've always thought they looked silly especially if they weren't intended to be cartoony. Not that I think that's what you meant XD I just like to rant about things.

The body on that wolf look great! There seems to me something off about her head, perhaps it's the muzzle? That's always that hardest part to get right, i've seen.

I'd agree that the muzzle isn't great not sure how to fix it, I've tried it again still not sure I like it but if anyone wants to throw in their two cents on this new one it'd be helpful,

So better or worse? (I feel like an optometrist saying that lol), ignore the slapped on colour, I was trying out some shading options and wanted to see how it worked for various colours,

But if you're going to redraw the muzzle, i'd say the problem is that it's too narrow in contrast with the furry cheeks. The head of that wolf is angled kind of differently though, anyway I've made a slight alteration, I don't see that I'm going to chance it dramatically without redrawing the entire head at least, it may happen, in... less than two days I'm going to be spending a few sweltering days up the Murray river, might be spending the hottest hours of the day sitting in the shade sketching... with my dog's leash tied to my waist lest she decide to run off chasing kangaroos... I'm terrified something will happen to my silly mutt especially because my father wants me to let her off leash after the first day... she's pretty clingy so she should stay with me and well she was bred for bushwhacking but I'm getting off topic, I'm freaking out because I forgot when I was going... eek.

Once again ignore the colouring and shading, just testing it with varying colours,


Aralie- Well that one is a personal character of mine so unfortunately she won't be given out later on, but knowing my love of cross foxes there will be plenty like her coming XD

I personally liked the wolf muzzle the second time. The first was too long, and this one looks a little flat to me. *shrugs* I say the second one. XD

Don't worry Wildfilly I'll probably be reworking it a bit still if not redrawing it all together so it's not the final product This version was sketched up pretty fast.

Hi everyone,

I don't come on Secundi much anymore but Mutt told me about her redrawing all or some of the species, so I decided to come have a look.
After Mutt asked me to redraw the male wolf for her, I thought "Hey, why not?" so I gave it my best shot.

I guess I could just tweak the Fennecs instead but I always thought they looked reaally bad if you or anyone else have any suggestions on what you like about them and what you don't like about them I'll give it a go.

So yup, if anyone has any opinions on these let me know these don't have to be the final poses ect so if you don't like them let me know it's not too hard to redraw them (got some  mechanical pencils for Christmas some of the newer pictures were drawn with these, so no more awful blunt pencil pictures)

Love the wolverine female! Especially the big fluffy feet lol.

Not a huge fan of the male wolf re-drawn, definitely still like the original art as it is, but that's just me. ^^;

Of the two male foxes, I like v. 1 better. V 2 still seems liek the length of the limbs are too short for hte body? Or maybe the body is just too barrel-chested and is making them seem too small.

Aaawww I love the random sketch! Hope it does become a coyote, that would be neat!

I love the wolverine female! Not much of a fan of the male wolf re-draw, i still like the current pose for him. Of the two foxes i think v2 seems more natural but agree with Ryuu that the limbs seems slightly short. I quite like the fox female sketch but seems a little hunched over to me. And that random sketch looks good!

I love the Wolverine female! I prefer V2 of the fox male, and I like the female fox but she looks kinda hunched over, like winged said. I veiw foxes as more feminine, nd the female fox just doesnt fully look the part. *shrugs* I also like the random sketch!

I'm glad everyone seems to like the Wolverine female, looking at the poll it'll probably be the first lineart updated (Bobcats will be released first I want to have them done )

I did have the wolf redrawn with the same pose but I did so digitally and I felt it didn't look so great (I don't sketch well in photoshop... I did the new female wolf in photoshop and that took forever to fix up) I think that lineart is coming second for a redraw after the Wolverine female, so I'll try redrawing it in the same pose in my sketchbook and see how it goes.

As for the foxes they and the male wolverine seem to be last on the redraw list so there's plenty of time to sketch them a few more times or mess around with them in photoshop.

Here's an update on the Bobcat I sketched it again as the digital sketch felt more cartoony then I'd like, the face still needs some altering as I was half asleep when I tried to outline it (and I really can't draw cats), also not sure about whether to make it smaller feel like it'd lose a lot of detail in the face and as I'm expecting we'll have tigers or lions eventually so it'd be really hard to keep every animal somewhat to scale on the cert in comparison to them.

I think the bobcat looks great so far! I agree with the too small losing too much detail, and am not one of those picky on size comparison. So if you were to not scale it any smaller, I'd be just fine. All the same, if you do scale it smaller, I'll be happy as well.

Here's an update on the Bobcat, getting a lot done today because I was again watching FNC live which means I'm stuck sitting down watching prank calls for 2 hours, gives me something to do whilst the host is on hold.



Probably going to edit the head a bit more (I just can't get the ears to look right XO ) and maybe the feet a little and shading isn't complete I'm trying to make the legs look muscular so I'm going to have to study a few photos and of course fur texture still needs to be added which takes forever but I like the effect XD Oh and the rock will be edited at least to make the lines less thick and there's still all the shading and stuff to do on that but I love drawing/colouring rocks, my DA gallery would attest to that but I won't be linking it because I have a nasty habit of using some very colourful language.

Made the ears smaller because they were humongous, so I'm hoping this one is better, slapped some colour on it just for fun, Bobcats will come in all feline colours wild or domestic so... I'm expecting some very interesting looking Bobcats XD

Probably just going to leave this as it is until I know whether or not people dislike it, I'm worried that like the Wolverines I'll spend a lot of time on them and no one will like them lol.

I'll probably sketch the other Bobcat, I'm thinking the above will be the female, but the final decision will be made once the other Bobcat is sketched up.

Will be rotating the above as it looks like I placed it at the wrong angle on the scanner, I can really see it in the hind legs. Needs a lot of work on the head and face this one because I scribbled it up quickly but here's a preview of the other Bobcat lineart.
