lol. It's true it's not a well known rule of chess. But if the pawn makes it to the other side of the board, you get to exchange it for another piece (except a king). Almost everyone chooses the Queen because it's the most powerful piece in the game. ^_^


Through the Looking Glass is so neat because you can actually set up a chessboard next to you as you read the book and, if you move all the chess pieces with the same movements as the characters in the book, you actually play a real game of chess. The end move is Alice, as a pawn, crossing the board and becoming Queen, and capturing the enemy King.
