I have recently started taking taekwon-do classes, and OMG to have a class first thing on Sat morning is the best thing ever! I am not normally a morning person, but this....this is like woah! I have only been at it for two weeks, but I'm already in love lol XD

Does anyone else here take a martial art? If so, what is it and how long have you been at it?

I took a year and a half of Judo before this, but distance to dojo, and dojo politics drove me away. My new TKD place is only 3 min from my house, and that is amazing! Sir is also a great teacher, and very understanding of my horrible out-of-shapeness XD This is what I get for taking over 9 months off >.>

Sounds fun!

I must admit, i would love to do somet like that but im rather shy and I wouldnt have the guts to start taking a class (esp one where people could see how outta shape i am) by myself.

You don't have any friends who would be interested in maybe even taking just a week of classes with you? Most reputable places have free trial classes, either for a couple weeks, or maybe even a month. That way you can see if you fit in with the style of the class, and the teacher. Maybe even just go to a local place and ask if you can just watch a class. If they are a good place they will have no problem with that. If you go to a place and they DON'T let you watch a class that is a big red flag that this is NOT A GOOD PLACE! lol

My biggest piece of advice is do your homework, research the school, the teacher, the style. There are many many schools out there, and honestly I'm of the belief that you should be training in a style that is internationally recognized. Not just a local "made up" martial art.

Indeed :)

My sister did taekwon-do for a good few months, if not a year and she seemed to love it. Saddly I do have any mates nearby who I could drag along. Lots of them have moved to bigger cities further away cos of jobs/uni etc. Nearest I have is my sis in laws and they are still a good 15 or so miles away, not to mention I cant see eith of them being interested in it. Since im outta work atm, i dont have a social network other than online, which sucks. Hopefully when i can get a job, i will get some new mates and be able to start doing these kinda things :)
