~(Re-) Introducing the Fables~

Hi, everyone.  Luv007 here, obviously.  Years and years ago, TheLeet drew me some amazing horse and people lines.  I started this adoptable on PI for a while before my life became more important and I had to let them go.  Well, now that my life is on track (husband found a job, children are all "growing up" so to speak, and my dogs -specifically my hardheaded yorkie- have all decided they are potty trained), I am ready to open the Fables up and hopefully make them bigger and better than ever.

First, I would like to tackle the technical things that are missing....

I've forgotten what Fables look like.  Can you remind me?

Do I owe you a Fable?  PM me please.
Do you own a Fable from PI?  It will be carried over to our new wonderful world, Secundi.  However, I am going to have to search my computer at my parents house for the files.  We do have a photobucket account and as far as I know, all of the old Fables still reside here:
http://s333.photobucket.com/albums/m364/Fables007/Owners/

Any other questions?  Just ask!  Now let's get down to the other-worldly part...

Fables are meant to be a highly interactive and roleplayable adoptable.  We had a storyline going before I left last time, but I can't find enough of my notes, or remember enough of my thoughts to carry that story on.  So we're starting over and taking some inspiration from other successful adoptables.

Fables will live in herds.  The larger the herd, the more benefits it may reap.  However, herds may not consist of only one user's Fables.  Secundi members will need to band together to create herds and tackle the Fable world.  And while the Fables may look and live more like horses, their brains work more like those of humans.

We believe that is how the thoughts of a Fable and the thoughts of a human met.  The world of the Fables is a make believe land where (nearly) anything you imagine can come true.  It was created simply by thinking about it and for that reason it is still not a fully developed world.  Every day, every life, every thought changes this world... and for this reason, members within a herd must work together to ensure that the world doesn't change into something horrific.

Humans come from a terrible, selfish world.  While only the desperate and in need seem to meet paths with Fables, they still bring their human ways into an inhuman world.  Since the first Bond, it has been harder and taken more imagination to keep the landscape of the world agreeable with the Fable lifestyles.

Human children were the first to create a Bond and as children, they created no large problems for the Fable society.  However, as the Bond became more accepted, older and older ages found their ways in.  Children from abused homes, a teenager whose parents abandoned her, a father who lost his wife and child in a single night... They all came to the Fables in their dreams desperate and writhing from the nightmares of their world.  The Fable world was an escape and once a true Bond formed, the Bonded Fable became their savior, their link to a happy place.

However, with each trip the world of the Fables, a human loses a bigger and bigger part of theirself in the human world.  The more a human visits, the harder it is for a human to return to their world.  Their bodies would fight waking up and bringing them back to Earth.

So back to the technical side of this thread:  What are a few of the facts and rules involved with the Fables?

**I'd like everyone to keep in mind that we are experimenting with these rules so nothing stands permenant right now.**

General:
1.  The adult unicorns are called Fables.  Their foals are called Stories.  Humans are called Dreams and their children are called Wishes.
2.  The planet the Fables live on is called Hadithi (had-i-thee).
3.  Hadithi's spring breeding system falls into accordance with every other Earth month.  (Translation:  Breeding will -once we have Hadithi established- occur every other month on Secundi.)
4.  Fables are extremely territorial because they control the landscape of their territory only if they maintain their territory.

Breeding:
1.  Breeding will only commence once we have a good 50-100 Fables distributed.  Dreams (humans) will commence breeding once 25-50 adults have been distributed.
2.  A few items will be needed for different breedings: Nesting Straw (normal breed), Twisted Nesting Straw (Twins), or Braided Nesting Straw (Triplets) [Twins and Triplets will be Identical unless a second or third stud is provided to make the babies fraternal].
3.  A few items can be added to the nesting straw for different results: Pink Flower (female story), Blue Flower (male story), Henna (1 Tattoo per Henna), A Cougar Claw (1 Scar per Claw) ect.
4.  Stories will grow in exactly one month. (This will be determined when I finalize a few of these rules.)
5.  Mares can be bred so long as they are an adult and so long as they have no current ungrown stories.
6.  Studs can be bred as many times as an owner wants, but if bred more than thrice per season, the percentage of genes passed on will be decreased by 50%.

Herds:
1.  A herd must consist of Fables from at least two different Secundi users.
2.  A herd must have at least 5 total Fables in it, with at least one of them being a male.
3.  Our first breeding season will only allow breeding within your herd, so choose who you put where carefully.
4.  To start a herd, one must choose a dominant, a leader.  That leader will be responsible for everyone in the herd as well as many other things yet to be listed.  However, the leader will choose a right-hand man so to speak to help with the responsibilities.
5.  The advantage to being in a herd is not only is Nesting Straw NOT needed for normal breeds, but your herd can claim territory on the grid.

The Grid:
1.  Only herds can claim land and that is what the grid is all about: land and water and prizes.
2.  Every time a herd claims a new square of land, I will run random.org to see what prize it holds.  Whichever member of the herd claimed the land keeps the prize. It may be something small and simple, such as a breeding item... but it also may be something like a full custom or a Bond (meaning you get a Dream).  However, the herd LEADER will choose what terrain that square will become.  The Fables create their world...  It is essential to remember this.
3.  Upon creating a herd, naming it, and acknowledging your leader, a herd is granted as many squares as members it has.
4.  Every time a herd gains a member, it gains a square.  Every time a herd loses a member, it loses a square and cannot reclaim the square for (x-amount) of time. [Like I said before, we're still working out the kinks.]
5.  I will have the grid saved on my computer and we will track squares by using a letter/number system.  Letters run down the side and numbers run across the top.  In other words... the top right square is a1.  The top right second square is a2... and so on and so forth.

Herd Building:

As I said before, Fables function more like horses, but think more like humans.  So in order to protect their territory, they build walls.  And in order to store foods, they build containers.  I'm working on developing this idea... and I would like ideas from my herds. So each herd, please decide and paste on one thing that your herd may need "built" out of dried grass, wood, or stone.  Bigger, stronger buildings will be made of stone.  But everything starts as something and the dried grass structure is better than no structure at all.  So you might be wondering how these building fit into Hadithi's world?  We may have a few bachlor bands, or a few lone Fables, but the idea is for everyone to build up their herds.  Dried grass equals weakest structure.  Stone equals strongest.  Weakest structures equal weaker herds.  Stronger structures equal stronger herds.  [Still working on how strength and stamina will benefit herds.  Give me some more time.  I've been too exhausted to be creative lately.][/color]

BREEDING

Since herds are gaining breeding items, I've decided to go ahead and lay down some laws and open up breeding.  For the purpose of this experiment, we will use every other week as "breeding season" and every other week as "claiming season".  During breeding season, items may be turned in for breeding or two Fables can decide to have a foal.  If a set of Fables does not use breeding nest, there are a few requirements:

1.  They must be of opposite genders.
2.  They must be of the same herd.
3.  The owner/s must write a love story or something explaining the Fables decision to have a foal.  There may be no more than 5 major grammatical mistakes and no more than 10 minor grammatical mistakes.  I am not going to get to particular, but misspelling and capitilization and whatnot are a pet-peeve.  (Younger collectors may send me an email and I will make exceptions... but by younger I mean <15.)  Fables want large herds and co-parent together.  A stud may be monogomous, but he also may have three different mommies to his children.  (Keep in mind, Fables think like humans, but function like horses.)
4.  Other items such as the flowers or henna may not be used for these breeds.  They are only for use with Nesting Straw of some sort.

If a pair of Fables uses Nesting Straw, the following rules apply:

1.  They must be of opposite genders.
2.  The foal/s will stay with the mare's herd until adulthood, and then they may choose to go elsewhere.

During claiming week, I will run some claiming games.  I am going to try to run one per day and we will bring in some of the strength and stamina here.  Some days, (when I have less time) it will be as simple as a dice roll and we will add strength and stamina points here...  I will random.org (my new fave website) which points to add (strength, stamina, or both) for now and later we may do it differently.  Days when I have more time, I will run contests.  Everyone can participate in all of these.  However, HLs and SCs are the only ones that can claim land and decide on terrain.

The following is going to be the week schedule:

June 26-July 2:  Claiming Week
July 3- July 9:  Breeding Week
July 17- July 23:  Claiming Week
July 24- July 30:  Breeding Week

And so on and so forth.  Only users with a Fable can claim land and only Fables NOT raising a story can participate in contests.  Also, only adult Fables can claim land.  Loners can reveal prizes on a piece of land, but not claim any land for themselves.

I will post today's game in the thread.  (Sorry for the short notice... Just got rid of the monster in law. OMG that woman.)

The next thing that the Fables would like to explore is jobs within a herd.  We have a herd leader and herd's second in command.  But what of other duties?  Feeding the herd?  Building structures for protection....

This is the part where I would like to see what we can do with this.  So far things are going great.  It's easy for me to maintain and seems fun for all the members.  So be patient with me and let me know what you think!

I am going to open up three new jobs:  1.  Builder, 2.  Midwife/Nursery Maid,  and 3.  Border Protector.

1.  Builders increase the herds ability to construct structures for protection and teaching and other professions.  More about that further down in the post.  Builders can build on up to three squares per day.  Non-builders may choose to build up to one per day if they have no other duty to attend to.

2.  Midwifes/Nursery Maid increase a herd's probability of having safe deliveries, and therefore, increases the possibility of multiples by sheer accident.  It isn't unheard of for a single mother to have quadruplet stories given the right circumstances.  We'll go with a midwife can attend one mother per day and can only give that one mother the increase.  Later, you may charge for this, but right now, I prefer things remain free.

3.  Border Protectors allow the herd not only to have a greater strength, but also allow the herd to gain an extra grid square per month (per week for the experiment).  For now, a protector adds +3 to a herd's strength.

Buildings

Since this is the part I am least certain about, I am only going to open up two structures; a nursery gate and border gate.

The nursery gate improves a mother's chance of having multiples again, simply by increasing her safety.  However, only as many mothers as fit within a connected gate may gain the chance of having multiples

The border gate improves the herd's strength.  Gates are built on square at a time and can be automatically connected.

For Example: Forgotten Love built on Z1 yesterday.  There is a fence going around the entire square.  She will build on Z2 today and they will connect.  At that point, her gate will enclose 2 grid squares.  Make sense?

The Experiment:

Step 1:

I am going to pass out two already-made herds to a minimum of ten Secundi users.  All you have to do?  Simply make sure you have read and reread all of the info above, be ready to RP your new pet, and type the code for the Fable you would like to claim in this event.

These guys are all rather dull colored, but each of them is unique all the same.  Most Fables are more brightly colored, but less unique.  Please only claim a Fable in this event if you can follow thru with the game.  If you do not finish Step 4, your Fable WILL BE REVOKED.  In any other case, this would not be true, but these Fables were made specifically for this event.

Step 2:

I am going to give everyone until Friday, June 24th to send in the following form:
(If all forms are sent in by Tuesday morning, I will process them then.  Otherwise, I will be out of town Tues/Wed/Thurs.)

Herd Name:
Herd Leader:
Herd Members:

Step 3:

I will post the grid and we will run a game for claiming territory.  This is a larger part of the experiment seeing as I haven't quite decided how land will be distributed.  Give me a few days and I will come up with some more info on this.  I have doodles throughout my notebook, and a grid ready to use, but my brain is too jumbled to put this together.  (My bonus/step-boys who I haven't seen since last Sept will be here Tues and I am tearing the house up trying to get their rooms perfect and the holiday stuff, easter baskets, christmas stockings and whatnot, all pretty for them.)

This step is also the one within which we will learn about herd heiarchy in an attempt to set some rules.  I can't play this out alone, so I am asking for you help... hence the free event.  Whomevers herd proves to function best and provides the most guidelines for us to go by in this adoptable shall win a prize... which will probably be more squares of land (which includes the prizes) and maybe a custom for each of the herd memebers.  No promises, but we'll see.

Step 4:

Winners Will Be Posted Here!!

EDIT:  Anyone who can tell me where I got the codenames for these Fables from, gets to claim an extra square of land for their herd!

(Males are standing; Females are sitting.)

One Fable Limit

Also, please post a name with your codename.  (Silly me forgot all about that...)

Herd #1:

This is where two pre-made herds will be given away.  Please post the codeword IN BLUE to claim your Fable.

Step Two

I am going to give everyone until Friday, June 24th to send in the following form:
(If all forms are sent in by Tuesday morning, I will process them then.  Otherwise, I will be out of town Tues/Wed/Thurs.)

Herd Name:
Herd Leader:
Second in Command:
Other Herd Members:

1.  Your herd leader has the final say in all herd decisions and can only has his/her decision overturned by his/her second in command.

2.  Your herd leader and your second in command can be either gender, but keep in mind that if they are both females, they cannot be bred at the same time.  One of them has to be physically and mentally able to make herd decisions at all times, and any mother can tell you what pregnancy does to a females hormones.  It isn't pretty.

3.  HL (herd leader) chooses the terrain of each grid square their herd claims.  HL also chooses which way to 'guide' his/her herd by choosing with squares on the grid to claim.

The Grid:
1.  I have 49 grid squared to split between the two herds selected here.  I placed a list of them in random.org and it has selected what order each square will be given away in.

2.  Each herd has 6 members, meaning that each herd can claim 6 grid squares.  (Ryuu won an extra square for her herd.)

3.  To begin, I will allow each herd to claim their first square.  First to post starts and herds will need to alternate afterwards.  Herd 1 claims a1, Herd 2 claims b7, ect.

4.  No editing posts once claims have been made.  If you post for it, you can't give it back.

5.  HL or SC (second in command) will need to be the one to post for these particular squares.  No one else in the herd may claim THESE squares.  Later, games will allow members to play as well.  Herds are about working together.... Please don't forget this.

Even though the herd leader is claiming all of the squares in this event, each member shall be awarded a prize.  Prizes will be given out in the order names are listed in the form above.  You may, however, trade amongst your herd so long as I have a list in the end of who owns what.

6.  When a square is claimed, post what you want that square to be... Land or Water are your only options right now, but that will change later.

Ex.:
Square: g7
Terrain: Land
Herd:  (name here)
Member: (user claiming the prize)

7.  Land is more likely to reveal a breeding item.  Water is more likely to reveal a random Story floating in basket.  Land is useful for grazing.  Water is useful for hydration.

8.  A more hydrated herd has more stamina, while a more nurished herd has more strength.  [This will play into your favor later during contests for more squares, though I am still learning exactly how each will benefit you.]

I'm working on getting the grid up, and ONCE YOU SEE THE PICTURE OF THE GRID, then you may begin claiming squares for your herd.

I will not put the grid up until AFTER I get each of the Herd Naming Forms.

*runs off to doodle more, clean more, and figure more rules*

Safe to post!

springacres

Assuming it's safe to post...
Arrow's Fall

And a question - what is the claim limit?  One per herd or one total?

Luv007

One total for now, please.  If we don't have much interest, I may increase the limit later.  Fair enough?

And Arrow's Fall is yours.  I'll edit a few more details I missed into the post above.  Give me just a second!

springacres

Fair enough, that's what I was assuming anyway. :)

Luv007

I am extremely forgetful.  Lol.  When I walked down the aisle for my wedding in December, I realized halfway down that I had forgotten the ring.  It made the wedding..... unique.

What your you like to name your girl?

Goddesss

Flying Changes

I would like to name her Bella.

Luv007

Certainly, Goddess.  I will cert all of these guys together once they have been claimed!

springacres

Oh, and I'd like to name my girl Smoke 'n Mirrors please.

Ravvana

Congo

I'll name her Shara, please <3

Ryuukokoro

Oh crud, I meant to be the first to post, but I was waiting for you to finish getting set up and then I got distracted in another window. XD

Xanadu please! And I'd like to name her White Walker.

Ryuukokoro

There we go, now that I have made my claim, can Ryuu just say HOW EXCITED she is that the Fables are back!? I totally talk about them to Leet in threads when her other adoptables come up, I've loved the lines since their first appearance on PI! *clings to luv* Don't even leave again!! :3

Ryuu also wants to show off her two Fables!!

Golden Day was a custom, and Deep Sky was a premade that I won. ^^ Since they are quite big, I will link to them.

Birthright please! I'd like to name him Haze :)

BabyKittenCandy

Blood Noir Please! Could I call him sargtlin

Pinkshadow

Firewing please <3
Could you name her ; Ina

Luv007

One more left!  (Which was quite the pleasant surprise this morning...)

No one has yet to guess where I got the codenames for these Fables?  Remember that it will give your herd a little advantage if you can put all those names together and come up with something...

And Ryuu, I have no intention of going ANYWHERE anytime soon.  Life gets a little crazy, but for the most part, there will be no more children or moving anytime soon.  Though there might be some puppies in a few months...  I love Golden Day.  She is one of my favorites!  And I'm going to remake Deep Sky for you asap and resize him and whatnot.  Secundi is like turning over a new leaf.  I shall do things better.

Ryuukokoro

The codenames seem to all come from titles of novels. ^^

And yay! I would love to see them resized! ^^ I absolutely love the cert though, so I'm glad you kept that. It's so pretty with the light filtering down from the leaves.

Kahlira

Ryuukokoro

Yay we have a home for everybody! \o/

Luv007

Correct, Ryuu! They all came from my bookshelves.

And Kah, yours is the last one I have to cert. Start getting together with your herds everyone!  We're moving on to step two.

BabyKittenCandy

So we pick who we would like to make herds with I assume?

Neocridders

Spixy

Too late! =D I love the idea though - will be stalking for more events ^^

BabyKittenCandy

Ah! Ignore my question, i was being 'specual'

:)

Luv007

@Neo and Spixy.... Give me a second and I'll see what I can do about including you guys.  The more the merrier.

@BKC:  Don't worry about it.... This is going to get complicated so all questions are good questions!

Neocridders

Meeeep. Didn't even see that she was taken already. Oh well, congrats Kahlira XD She's a pretty one.

Scullisto

I have two fables from...a long time ago can they be part of a herd here?

Pinkshadow

Uhm, I have never been into Fables before, so does any1 wna make a herd with me? or is it possible to join one? <3

Neocridders

I think since she put Herd 1 and Herd 2 above the premades, they are already in herds. So you don't have to worry about finding one.

Luv007

@Neo- Well, you have one if you want her.

@Pink-  Neo is correct.  This thread is all about trying out the new herd and grid system that I would like to set up.

@everyone else:  While you get together with your herds, decide on a leader and a plan of action.  Try to decide on what your goals are as a herd, be they to increase your members or to increase your territory or just to exist.

I will post Step Two as soon as I get my child up.  She slept til 10:30!  I am shocked.  Fortunately, that meant mommy had time to clean for the monster in laws coming to visit tomorrow!

Luv007

@Scullisto:  They certainly can, but I'd prefer to wait until after this event to do that, if you don't mind waiting?  I really haven't gotten the rules set in stone yet and once I do that, I will open herds up to anyone who has previous Fables floating around and I will be giving out more so that we can populate the world.

Kahlira

Ryuukokoro

Kahlira you are awesome. <3

Ooo I can't wait to get my others into a herd! <3

Questions for luv:
-It never says stallions have to be herd leaders, so is it okay for females to lead?
-Is it okay for one person to have multiple herds? Like if my girl from this event is in one herd, can my two from PI form a different herd with other Secundi people?

Luv007

Correct.  Females may lead!

And yes, one user can have many herds with their Fables.  That, in fact, is part of the concept.... Diversity and what not.

Ryuukokoro

Ravvana

I would just like to say I am already totally in love with this adoptable <3 I usually get really intimidated by RP adoptables, but I'm having a lot of fun just getting started with my herd :) It's definitely a fun change of pace from what I'm used to.

Luv007

Just want to say that I am sorry for not having Step Two posted yet.  There has been a drastic change of plans in things and my monster in law AND my great monster in law are coming to our house bc my husband got a job, starting today,  (yay), but they won't let him leave to go pick his kids up as planned (boo).  So instead of just cleaning, I'm super cleaning.

I am trying to get some rough notes put together in an order that makes sense right now, but it may be later tonight before I really get a chance to sit down for more than a few seconds.

@Ravv:  Thank you!  That is incredibly inspiring actually.  I have had this concept since PI when a user was selling pixels for USD.  I spent a great deal getting them set up and right before I introed them, she was caught stealing art and nothing I bought had been her work...  It was pretty devestating.  But I got very obbsessed with Leet's Kats and through that developed a wonderful friendship with her.  When she made these lines for me, I intended to go with roughly the same idea and never got to really follow thru.  This time I want to slow it down so it doesn't get overwhelming for me or any of my followers.  I am going to keep them free for now and basic.  I want users to build the world bc that way I can keep users happy.  There are just so many kinks to work out. :/  But thank you!

Ryuukokoro

Go for it luv! That sounds excellent! And don't worry, here on Secundi we are kinda a slower pace than on PI, we can definitely wait for ya. ;)

Luv007

@Ryuu:  Thank goodness.  I like the slow, but closer knit community here.  I know most of users, even if just by name.

Neocridders

Herd one members should come here so we can figure out stuffs <3
http://www.secundi.net/forum.php?topic=4680.0

Luv007

*pops head in*

Good job, guys!

I'm still cleaning.  *mutters....*
